Chromecast Can't Connect to Wi-Fi

ArrivalRate

Greetings,

This is my first time setting up a Chromecast unit.

Although I selected 1st generation Chromecast as device type for this post, it could be a 2nd gen unit. It is not an Ultra.

I have cycled power on the Chromecast. The unit has a solid white light.

The error is Can't Connect to Wi-Fi.

Subtitle is "make sure your network name and password are correct".

I have not been promoted for network name (SSID) or password. Where are these configured for the Chromecast?

Google Home discovered the Chromecast but said "the device has a few extra steps before you can start setup. Goto the Help Center to learn more."

At that point, searching & reading I did not find anything matching this circumstance.

Hi ArrivalRate,

Thanks for reaching out to the Chromecast Community! Let's sort this out.

Quick questions: how far is your Chromecast from the Wi-Fi router and mobile device? What is the make and model of the mobile phone you're using for set up?

Try these steps:

  1. Uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app.
  2. Forget and reconnect your mobile phone to the network and manually type in the Wi-Fi password.
  3. Reboot your Wi-Fi router.
  4. Reboot your Chromecast again.
  5. Adjust the settings of the setup device. For Android devices: on your phone Settings > Turn on Location Services. For iOS devices: Go to Settings >  Bluetooth > Turn on Bluetooth and  turn on the Local Network Access. Settings > Tap Privacy > Tap Local Network > Select the Google Home app.
  6. Reboot your mobile phone.
  7. Manually connect to the Chromecast SSID. Here's how: Go to the phone Settings > Open Wi-Fi and connect to the Chromecast SSID (Example: Chromecast1234, Living Room TV, Bedroom TV, etc.) > Go to the Google Home app and try to set it up again.
  8. Try to use a different mobile device.
  9. Factory reset your Chromecast,

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Jennifer
