Good day,
I remind you of my question.
I have Chromecast with Google TV 4K after updating to Android 14 UTTC.241218.004.12950887 my Chromecast does not see USB drives. It shows a message, USB drive safely removed. My drives are configured as device mass storage and everything worked fine on Android 12.
The Bluetooth keyboard also stopped working. It is visible in the settings, but you can't type anything using the keyboard because it doesn't work. Searching with the remote control also doesn't work. I can't type anything because the virtual keyboard doesn't appear.
Factory reset doesn't help because it's still Android 14.
When will Google release a patch to fix the bugs? It's been a long time.

Indeed Google. What are you waiting for? End of device support is nearing.
But you crippled my perfectly working gcwgtv with this buggy update.
Please fix this. Heck push an update to revert to android 12. At least it was working.
Like OP I really like a reaction from google. Or even better solve the problem.
05-12-2025 11:42 AM
When will there be an update with a fix? A competing manufacturer of TV boxes Kinhank has just released a correct version of Android TV 14 and you still have no news.

Same problem here, after update my ccwgtv my external storage stop working. All apps install on my external storage are missing. Please fix this or explain how roll back the 14 android update

Google are doing what they love best ignoring us and leaving to the community staff members to have to say the same no offence to those people but rubbish. It’s always have you reset device have you done step 1-22 when really google knows it’s their complete mess up but for us custimers outside of their favourite USA we will continue to be ignored and given this forum as an answer to getting help which is an insult as this hasn’t ever really been anything than a ever dying non customer support option that they won’t ever get rid of and provide real customer support service or feedback functions that anyone who can make decisions at Google willl read.
how many more times are the questions not going to get a real honest and proper answer. I wonder what do the board in the uk really do as I reckon no one has told them they have a Google TV service as whoever heads it up here is a complete waste of time .
so come on Google when is someone going to grow a pair and provide an official update statement !!
05-14-2025 08:15 AM
Inderdaad.
I got stuck with telephone contact after refusing to reset my device.
How much clearer does it get when google withdraws the android 14 update.
Admit the mistake and fix it.
Stop hiding
05-14-2025 06:01 PM
They love to treat us l8me moorons knowing it won’t work this constant factory reset is insane as they don’t even supply a back up function yet they expect us to keep starting from scratch like we all have time and wish to lose what we have taken time to setup
05-14-2025 02:16 PM
Hey all,
Our team is aware and are actively investigating the issue. We'll provide an update when there's more to share. Thank you for your patience.
Best regards,
Virna
05-14-2025 05:56 PM
The makes me laugh how long do we all bet this will continue and drag on for many more weeks you have only had months to sort this out and your still investigating what jokers you Google lot are
05-14-2025 06:05 PM
Maybe it would be more reasonable for Google to let us go back to Android 12 where everything worked fine, and when it finds a solution to Android 14 bugs, it will release a fix for A14. We want to use our devices as before, but we can't do that with A14 because it contains a lot of bugs.
05-14-2025 11:39 PM
Well rest assured that your dutch helpdesk division is NOT aware of this issue.
And indeed a rollback update to android 12 is preferred.
05-16-2025 03:40 AM
So come on then let’s hear an update as it shouldn’t be taking this long for yiur team to investigate when the issue has been for months. You need to pull your fingers out and get this given a high priority to get fixed as this is appalling you seem to just launch software without ever fully testing it. So know we have broken devices thanks to this awful android 14 as you won’t put a revert back to 12 on place and you still don’t take this as a major priority you really have ruined a brand that was great now it’s just a company that never wants to listen to its customers and has no type of customer service.
05-17-2025 12:04 AM
Either release an update that fixes your bugs or provide the ability to go back to Android 12 until a fix for Android 14 is released. Take us very seriously...
05-20-2025 08:44 PM
So Virna
come on give us an update as you claim it’s being looked into yet we still have seen nothing happen not even Google come out and release a statement around the issue. I find it very hard to believe that anyone is really looking into this issue or taking it seriously instead we are treated like idiots by being fed rubbish from you guys that is being looked into and to delay complaints and escalations further you and your teams ask the same idiotic questions like we have re tried factory resetting etc rather than support by escalating this issue to the top.
remember not all of was lucky enough not to have had this disaster of an upgrade which you quietly withdrew as you knew within the first day or so there was major issues. So unlike the lucky ones there still is many many of us with what can only be described as **bleep**ed up devices thanks to Google. Mine not only struggles to boot up with this annoying power too low warning which makes it restart again and can do this many times but it constantly disconnects from Bluetooth and Wi-Fi the reconnects then does the same thing again it becomes to a point that Somerset the device is unusable. Oh and before you say the rubbish of checking my router let’s be clear here the issue isn’t the router the Bluetooth devices being used or the power supply it’s android 14 and the idiots at Google who can’t even fixed a software that they themselves produced
so update please ,,,

@virnabany updates?

When will you release a patch to fix the bugs of the previous update of our Google Chromecast TV 4K?!!! How much longer do we have to wait?!!! Our devices do not work!!! You are really forcing us to buy devices from competing companies, these devices work without a problem on A14... I am angry!!!

I'm afraid that Google thinks that the Tv streamer is a good gcwgtv replacement. Unfortunately the tv streamer is an overpriced criplled piece of crap. And is no option.
So we have to wait until they resolve this issue, and even that is a big if.
The support ends september 2025.
So Google please fix this. Because if not i'll never buy a Google product again in my life.
Revert to android 12, since it's clear your programming division is not capable of fixing these issues. Or prove me wrong.

Today I received the UTTC.241218.008.H1.13427172 update but still my Chromecast with Google TV 4K does not see USB drives and the virtual keyboard and external Bluetooth MxKeys Logi do not work. I cannot search for movies, applications, etc. On the external keyboard only the arrow keys work (up, down, right and left) so the keyboard is probably paired correctly.
Do I need to set something or is this still an Android 14 bug that needs to be fixed?
What is happening? I thought this update would fix these bugs.
I will add that the keyboard does not work only on the home screen. There I cannot search for applications, movies, etc. Even after pressing the magnifying glass (Search field) nothing happens.
In installed applications it works without a problem.

I've replied in the Nest forums on this issue more than once, but just noticed that if you look at the Kernel Version name on the CCWGTV 4K under the "About" section, it literally says "maybe-dirty" in the Kernel version name, which, according to a search and Gemini, implies a rushed, often not fully tested build, and features that were added last minute, without being confirmed to be fully functional through official Quality Control channels. What the hell Google?!? We are not guinea pigs. Test your darn software before you release it and maybe don't include "maybe-dirty" in the Kernel Version name. Clearly multiple people have had severe problems due to this botched update and likely only 10% or less of affected users (If it's even that high since this is a device often utilized for simple streaming by non-tech savvy users) have even bothered to post in this forum. All we hear in response from a single Google support rep, who I suspect may not even be involved in the software development/engineering part of the team (Don't quote me on this) is "we are aware of the issues and working on investigation and fix" yada yada, yet it's been months now. I anticipate Google waiting this out until the 5 years of software updates/product support period has lapsed in September, and will leave us all in the lurch with broken devices. The CCWGTV is unfit for purpose after this botched update. Hell, even your own AI ratted you out Google in regards to the "maybe-dirty" naming of the Kernel version. I'm buying a new non Google device and never purchasing another Google branded product again. Shame on you Google. I am seriously contemplating taking Google to small claims court, as Maryland will allow you to include reimbursement of all your fees in your claim, including all processing/filing fees, and having to hire a process server to deliver the legal paperwork to Google. Maybe if they released an official public acknowledgment of the issue other than a single comment buried in the nest support forums, users might have hope of a timely fix. This is why I've never purchased and will never purchase a Pixel device, as a phone is way too important to have constant software bugs plaguing the device. This will likely be my last post in this forum regarding the Android TV 14 update, but I've had several issues with other Google branded products as of late, such as Home and Nest mini devices. I'm done Google. Let us know if/when you've release to fix for this horrible update.

I will repeat my question, which I have been asking for a few weeks and still do not have an answer....
Google!!!
When will you release a patch that will fix the errors of the previous update of our Google Chromecast TV 4K?!!!
How long will you ignore our questions?!!!
I am very angry and tired of the lack of answers to my questions.
Wednesday
Please keep the rest of us informed.
I understood that the latest update didn't resolve the USB hub issue?
Wednesday
After installing a new update, there is still a problem with an external USB disk. My Chromecast still can't see the disk ...
Thursday
1 question did you use your usb storage for storing apps on it, or just media?
Reason for this question is simple adb is still not accessible so program storage on usb will stay a problem. If media is not accessible then google simply didn't fix anything important.

I used mine for both, different drives had different purposes ...but mainly just external app storage. 4 different drives I own, from High Speed USB thumb drives to external SSDs, which all worked before the ATV 14 update, all state "Drive has been safely ejected", as soon as they are plugged into the Powered USB C hub and detected. It shows the actual name of the drive so it's definitely being detected, but showing the safely ejected message every single time with every single drive (all the drives are formatted correctly to FAT 32). I had high hopes this update would fix this issue considering that one of the bug fixes mentioned on several Android news sites for this latest release was a fix for external USB peripherals including USB storage devices. Real shame, I loved these devices. I gave my spare Chromecast with Google TV 4K to my parents, and they love it too compared to their old school 2nd Gen Chromecast dongles (even though I'm HIGHLY regretting that decision now, considering they are still on Android 12 with everything working.. I may ask them to swap lol). I miss/will miss the portability aspects of the older Chromecast devices including the Chromecast with Google TVs, all of which all have that integrated HDMI cable / port I've always loved. I almost bought one or two more 4Ks when they were getting discontinued, just to have them for other non-smart TVs in my home, travel, or to gift to someone I'd be able to tell really needed one, I can't in good conscience recommend this device to anyone anymore even used. I'm glad I held off on buying the newer Streamer with all The Android TV 14 problems, and while I haven't seen the size in person, it definitely seems it'd be more difficult to travel with on vacation. Anyway, really hoping for another fix sooner than later and faster than this one. I won't hold my breath though.

Hmm drives are indentified, that's a start.
Problem is to isolate the difference between app storage and just media.
Is it possible for you to reformat one drive and use that exclusively for media? Also do not forget to switch usb mtp on in developer mode.
Just curious but it might work.
Ps I'm not working for google. My IQ is above 110, so extremely over qualified;)

Thanks for you reply Sophia.
Question remains if this problem also occurs on a drive just used for media.
From what I understand the uses a different approach.
@B3njammin I wouldnt be suprised if your parents gcwgtv is updated to android 14.

We all to the idiots at Google have clearly cleared out any staff with the skills to deliver software improvements and upgrades and kept the inturns I think it’s about time googles behaviour especially the last 6 months with the Chromecast complete **bleep** up should be officially investigated by authorities as they are a complete out of touch arrogant company as I will not be buying anymore Google products aa they kill off everything my home hub devices are completely ruined with the killing off of the devices and the so called support experts on here are just a complete waste of time they like their so called support chat teams just repeats the same moronic crap stating the onbvious and purposefully get you to go through the same stupidly insane questions and tests then say we are not aware of the issue there either simpletons or just bloody rude

Update was available today for my Chromecast with Google TV 4k. It's fixed the issue I had previously with the settings crashing in the display and sound section.
Wednesday
Well I can confirm adb is still broken.
I wonder if usb access is fixed, haven't read any confirmations on that.
Still with adb broken external app storage on usb would be troublesome if not impossible.

Yep, external storage still broken after latest update smh
Thursday
Called for a should out.
Google can you please try to fix the issues at hand. I know good staff is hard to find, but a whip sometimes does wonders.
So stop messing around, it's getting annoying to see the level of stupidity displayed by this so called update.
yesterday
Perhaps I should rephrase my last comment.
Google pull the ota NOW.
If not you are knowingly crippling the devices that have not been affected by this update.
Therefore you are legaly responsible for intentionaly damaging consumer owned devices.

Hi RBerg I have a similar problem in that I have notified Google (I have been given a ticket number) about problems with the google 4k streamer in so far that the unit worked well until the Android 14 update. Now I have lost the ability to cast screen or tab with a chromebook . In the UK the item, in law, is "not fit for purpose" Alyn

Well I'm in the Netherlands and an actual lawsuit is not even possible under 500 euro. However google is an u.s. based company.
If you can sue a big hamburger company for major liability compensation (just for not stating that Coffee is hot). I wonder what is possible in the states.

Hi there!
Thanks for the update. stormer, I appreciate you reporting that the inconvenience was fixed in your case. For those who are still having trouble with their Chromecast with Google TV 4K, please try the following recommendations:
Check for pending updates on your Chromecast with Google TV 4K:
Let me know the firmware version that you see.
If you have the latest firmware version, check if the Chromecast with Google TV 4K now recognizes your USB and Keyboard. If not, proceed to the next step.
Perform a factory reset on the device by following these instructions:
After performing the factory reset, set up your Chromecast with Google TV and Voice Remote and check if your Chromecast with Google TV 4K now recognizes the USB and Bluetooth Keyboard.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Best regards,
Virna
