I have two identical Chromecasts that should be connected to anther network. Both have been reset. One succeeded after 10-20 tries. The other one constantly fail.
I used this article https://support.google.com/chromecast/answer/2998456?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid but the described method does not work:
Tried the direct connect to SSID, but Chromecast simply will not let my mobile in. Tries and then stops 'not aproved'. Then verified the SSID by test connecting my computer to it. No problem, but the mobile gets thrown off. With only mobile as valid for setup I am stuck.

Lo and behold: I borrowed my wife's iPhone and installed Google Home on it. Searched for new. It found it. Setup worked instantly, fast, and flawlessly.
So apparently it is only my Android that the Chromast does not like. Reason unknown...

I didn't scroll down but yep these are some hassle to setup, no improvements on the newer models at all.

You have second gen that article states "for 3rd Gen or older" I would try setting them on the home app on different devices until it works. I never had the second gen but did have 3rd gens for a long time, still they had setup issues where it allways failed so I allwyas have my tablet to try the setup until it goes through.
