Chromecast No sound

Hello there,

I was watching netflix and all of the sudden, the sound just went off.

I’ve tried most of the things I could find here, including:

• restart

• replugged into hdmi

• check if it’s because of the TV. The TV still has sound as normal.

• Display and sound > advanced sound setting > tried both ‘none never use surround sound’ as well as ‘manual select’

• Tried Factory Reset: still no sound. Then repeat all of those actions above, still no sound.

Can somebody please help, I’m desperate.

Thank you!!!

Very strange indeed! Did you try increasing the volume of the Chromecast itself ?  Do you have another tv you can test the device on?

Hi, yes I did try to increase the volume. The volume bar image on screen still goes up when I press increase but there’s just no sound. Unfortunately I don’t have another TV to test it on. My TV sound still works as normal when I try it alone without the chromecast.

This may sound odd, but can you try changing from Dolby vision to HDR and see if that works ?

I did as well, Dolby > HDR > SDR

Hmm.. without a control device to test I'm out of ideas here.   If you can ask a friend or someone to use their TV for a minute to see if audio works there.. that could narrow down the issue.  If it doesn't work on another drive then it is faulty.

I guess the only other question I would have is, are you plugged directly into the TV's HDMI port, or are you using an HDMI extender?  Can you try a different HDMI port?

One other thing to try is to unplug your TV's power for 30 seconds...it COULD be the TV.. I'm suspecting a CEC / ARC handshake issue ...if it's not the Chromecast itself
