Chromecast Not Working - Update Failure

Jessica6
Community Member

My chromecast suddenly stopped working about two days ago. It tries to update itself but gets stuck at 0%, then says network error. I've restarted my router (working fine for all other devices), my TV and the chromecast itself. I've tried resetting the Chromecast to factory settings but it still won't work. Even after a factory reset, it tries to update and times out stuck at zero %. It's located right next to the wifi router so the advice "move it closer" doesn't apply here, and the signal has been sufficient to run Chromecast for the last several years (and hasn't changed). Any ideas?

Hi Jessica6,

Thanks for reaching out. Let's check on this further.

Quick question — what's the LED light status in your Chromecast? Please try the additional steps listed below:

  • Ensure your TV is powered on.
  • Ensure the Chromecast is tightly plugged into the HDMI input in your TV.
  • Ensure the Chromecast is tightly connected to the power supply and the power supply is plugged into the wall outlet.

Note: If the download is stuck at a certain % for a long time, there might be something wrong in your router settings. There is known issue with certain router configurations that can cause slow downloads. Learn more about these routers.

Keep me posted.

Thanks,

Jennifer
