Chromecast Remote Not Responding to Voice Commands

Sati

The remote is no longer responding to voice commands, even though the battery level is adequate. To troubleshoot, I unpaired and re-paired the remote, but the issue remained. I also performed a factory reset on the device, however, the problem persists. This problem started about 4-5 days ago, the voice commands were working seamlessly prior to that.

My Google Chromecast details are as follows:

  • Android TV OS Version: 14

  • Security Patch Level: October 1, 2025

  • Build Number: UTTC.250917.004.14193937

Hello @Sati,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand you are having an issue where your Chromecast remote is no longer responding to voice commands, even though the battery level is adequate. I see that you already performed some troubleshooting, including unpairing and re-pairing the remote and performing a factory reset on the Chromecast device itself. Let me help you with this.

We need to check the microphone's input path and ensure all necessary software permissions are active.

Step 1: Check for Microphone Status and Mute

We need to confirm that the microphone itself is not being unintentionally muted or blocked.

  • Check the LED: When you press and hold the Google Assistant button on the remote, a small LED light should illuminate near the top of the remote (above the directional pad).
    • Does this LED light up when you press the button?
    • If the light does not come on, the button or microphone assembly may be physically stuck or faulty.
  • Verify Input: Try speaking very clearly into the remote while holding the Assistant button. Do you see any visual change on the TV screen (e.g., the Assistant listening icon appearing), even if it doesn't process the command?

Please try Step 1 first, as confirming the LED light status is the quickest way to diagnose the remote hardware. Let me know if the light comes on when you press the Assistant button.

Regards,

Kevin

Hello @kcruzgonzalez,

Thank you for your input.

I am based in New Delhi, India, where we occasionally experience power surges. Out of habit, I usually turn off electronics at night. However, after reading a suggestion online, I decided to leave the Chromecast plugged in. To my surprise, the remote started working again after a week of disruption.
I’m not sure if there was an OS update in the past couple of days, but the voice commands are now functioning properly as well.

Thanks & regards,
Sati

Mi control no sirve, y no puedo configurar el Chromecast ya que se queda en pantalla de vinculación..no puedo creer que no se pueda instalar como los anteriores desde el celular . Ayuda. Gracias
