Chromecast Remote Setup Help

PC75

Hi all,

I am trying to set up my Chromecast with Google TV remote to control the volume on my TV, as well as use the power button to turn the TV off. Originally when I went through the process, the romote changed the volume and turn the power off to the TV. Then all of a sudden it stopped working. I tried going back into the remote setup and trying again, but this time I can't get it to change either the volume or turn power off. I then removed the remote setup function completely and started a fresh set up. Again I wasn't able to get the remote to change volume or turn off power. I'm confused since I was able to get it to work on my first set up (when it asks you to test to see if it worked an dyou choose yes or no), but now I can't get it to work. Does anyone have any fixes for this? The TV I am trying to control is an older Kogan that uses an IR blaster. It's not a smart TV at all.

Thanks,

Hi PC75,

Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us. Kindly try this workaround and let me know how it goes:

  • Remove the batteries and give it a 2 to 3 minute rest.
  • While the batteries are out, press and hold down the power button for 15 to 20 seconds to fully drain any static power left on the chipset/motherboard of the Chromecast Voice remote, then release the button.
  • Let the remote rest again for 2 to 3 minutes. Take this time to unplug the Chromecast device from power and give it a 1 minute rest before you plug it back in.
  • Test it and observe.
  • If it persists, you can factory reset the remote and pair it again.

We look forward to your response.

Thanks,

Kimy

Hi, I’m having the same issue here. Just got a brand new chromecast and I cannot add my TV so that I can control the volume. Ive tried the steps you suggested above as well as clearing the data from the Android TV Infrared ServiceI’ve also factory reset the Chromecast and unpaired and repaired the remote. No luck. I’ve got a circa 2013 samsung TV. Any help is appreciated.

Hi Kblackman,

Thanks for posting here. The situation may be similar, but your TV brand and model are different, which makes your cases not the same at all. Compatibility is a possibility here, but since this is brand new, you may try to have the remote replaced. If the new remote (assuming functional IR hardware) still fails, chances are it may not be compatible. Let us know how it goes.

We look forward to your reply.

Thanks,

Kimy
