Chromecast/ home app

Three weeks now. Still unable to cast. Keeps saying doesn't recognize. (Yes, i did the reboot before they said don't do it.)

Tried everything i can think of. My phone is s7 edge. Its not showing an update for the Home app after I've uninstalled and reinstalled probably a dozen times. About ready to throw it in the trash. Any other ideas?

Didn't know if i replaced it with a  roku if that  would let me cast apps from my phone and go that direction.  

Appreciate the help!

Just commenting to say that I am dealing with the same issue. Haven't found a fix yet. 

Google is providing no support or acknowledgement of the persistent issue so far.
