Hello, I've two Chromecasts that I daily use and they stopped working suddenly, out of the blue, without any modification on my network. I'm unable to cast anything thru them.
I tried to restore the factory settings on one of them but I'm unable to configure the Chromecast since the configuration process stops after the Chromecast wifi connection (Unable to connect to the Chromecast).
I tried using multiple Android devices but the punishement remains the same...

Same with mine(2nd gen). Just this AM. Is this a class event of old 2Gen chromecast units?

Regarding all the posts related to that issue, I guess this is a real issue due to a recent Google delivery. Needs to be fixed ASAP.
Even if the product is not sold anymore, Chromecast is not officially decommissioned yet and support is supposed to be alive.

I have the same problem at home my normal chromecast stopped worked and all of my chromecast Audio also stopped. I tested with an old one that not have been in use for a long time and this I could connect with the wifi but then it started an update and I've got the message that the update takes to long time or something like this, but in the end the old one was working. I think there has been a update from Google that killed our chromecast I hope there will be soon a new update

Exactly the same here in Norway. Stopped working suddenly 15 ours ago. Tried everything. But there is No connection. Got som fault messages. Can't connect, Can't authenticate. Almost if the units are on different network. The chromecast I reset is found on the home app, but when trying to do next stepp, the chromecast is not found.

Same issue with my chromcast sińce last night in Poland. Authentication fails. Have reset everything, nothing works. 😞 seems to ve a global issue.

An intermediary CA SSL certificate expired on all your devices and it needs to be renewed and your CC device certificate needs to be resigned with renewed intermediary CA certificate... or firmware code change because I don't see how those certificates can be signed remotely without providing the CA keys to everybody . It's an interesting problem that they had 10 years to see coming.

Very interesting indeed, amazing that this SLL certificate expiration issue has not been properly anticipated and prevented...

Oh I've just reset my chromecast, restarted my router and try a lot of things before seeing that we all have the same problem since today. Chromecast 2nd gen here

Me too, spent ages restarting etc, to realise it's a global problem! Annoying...

Same annoying issue with mine here in Sweden. Unacceptable in my opinion, and no pre warning or information on how to solve it.

Same issue with my chromecast, it stopped working suddenly. “Unable to connect to the Chromecast“, with the typical message to check the local network configuration for my Google home app. This is so frustrating.

UPDATE: It seems the issue was fixed by Google.
Today, March 16, I disconnected the Chromecast from power, and after a few minutes, I was able to cast again as usual without any issues.
For your information, since I had performed a full reset of my Chromecast a few days ago, I had to apply the fix of setting an old date in my iPhone settings to allow the configuration in the Google Home app.

I relay the temporary workaround that I found (perfectly works on my side) :
TEMPORARY FIX FOR CHROMECAST CERTIFICATE EXPIRATION since Google is slow and incompetent and forgot to renew the certificate for Gen2 Chromecast and older!!!
***IF YOU HAD FACTORY RESET YOUR CHROMECAST and are having problems resetting up the Chromecast (Home App can't connect) ***You must follow these steps first before you fix your casting!!!
If you had unfortunately factory reset your Chromecast during this issue, go to your phone Date&Time settings and turn off automatic date set, manually change the date to March 7, 2025. Now try to set up the Chromecast again and it should work again.
If you didn't factory reset, Just proceed to the casting fix,
Download and install this Activity Manager app. I am not affiliated with it, but it's open source and seems to work as advertised. Note that you can download an APK directly from that page—you don't need to install F-Droid if you don't want to.
Launch the app and select "Intent launcher" from the dropdown in the upper right.
Tap the edit icon next to "Action" and paste in
com.google.android.gms.cast.settings.CastSettingsCollapsingDebugAction
Leave all other fields blank.
***On Android 11 and below, use
CastSettingsDebugAction
instead of CastSettingsCollapsingDebugAction.
4. Tap the checkmark in the lower right.
5. In the settings popup panels that pops up, scroll down to "Connection" and click to enable "Bypass Device Auth".
You are done!
