Chromecast: no surround when casting from Computer

Parker3

hi all,

I have a Chromecast TV HD and when casting from VLC or PLEX (from computer) there is no surround sound, only stereo.

However when using the Amazon Prime App included in the Chromecast it produces surround in DD.

Also when switching to my old Chromecast V3 it plays sound in surround (DD).

Chromecast is connected in a recent Denon AVR.

Do you have any idea how to fix it please?

Thanks.

Hi Parker3,

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear about the situation that you are experiencing with the surround sound when you are casting from a computer. I understand how frustrating that situation can be. But don't worry, I can help. Could you please confirm if you already changed the surround settings?

Here is how:

Make sure the device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network or signed in or linked to the same account as the Google Nest, Home, or Chromecast device.

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap the device card.
  3. At the top right, tap Settings.
  4. Under Device features, tap Audio > Surround Sound.

Please let me know if you have any questions; I'll be happy to help.

Regards,

Jenny

hi Jenny,

thanks, there is no such option in the google home app, nothing related to Surround 😞

What worked: I installed PLEX on the chromecast directly and this worked.

Hi Parker3,

Thanks for your update! I'm glad you were able to find a solution. It's great that installing Plex directly on the Chromecast worked. That's a clever workaround!

Please let me know if you have any other questions or need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Best regards,

Jenny
