Chromecast not working

Chromecast purchased 5 months ago suddenly went dark. LED is on white. Get black screen on TV. The device is responsive to the volume button on the remote but that's all. Home app does not connect to Chromecast. I tried powering off TV and Chromecast. I also tried resetting Chromecast with button on device but it did not reset. My problem seems to be identical to this one ... https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Chromecast/Chromecast-not-working/td-p/421548. I tried all the steps listed on that thread without success.
