Chromecast poor experiences

Chromecast poor experiences

Is it time to give up Chromecast and YouTube which have lost their capability of working well together?  The operation of Chromecast had become erratic and unpredictable.

It keeps dropping the connection and quits playing video. It's control from the cellphone also had become weak by losing functionality that used to work well a few months ago

Google is not living up to it's promise of providing value for it's products, nor are they proud or serious about providing  support for them.

Gone are the days when users were proud of using Google products  Just completely disappointed with Google and it's new deteriorating direction. ☹️👎

Before making unsupported statements it is advisable to make a system diagnosis in order to establish why you are experiencing those issues.

Check your phone and PC status, updates and general condition.

Check the network for possible issues and ensure that you are able to send a strong WiFi signal both to Chromecast and to the phone.

Check for possible screening issues that may affect the WiFi signal.

If what you are saying was true, this community will be filled with threads about Chromecast 3rd generation malfunctioning.

Your device don't have an operating system like the Chromecast with Google TV and, therefore, unless its hardware components fail, the various functionality issues are usually traced to the devices that cast to the Chromecast 3rd generation.

You seem to be a die-hard  Chromecast follower like I was a few months ago when their devices did work correctly. I am reporting supporting statements based on real issues experienced by me with the Chromecast after recent changes made to its functionality. They were all working reliably about a month back.

I have been a Chromecast power-user since its introduction and have total 6 devices from different generations on different HDTV's. It cannot be possible that all devices started demonstrating the same degraded functionality at the same time.

Network is ATT fiber at 300 MBPS and devices have great signal which is within 10 feet line of sight. All Chromecast devices, TV and cellphone has been rebooted. It actually plays well when it works, but is very erratic and unreliable in its behavior as mentioned in my original post.

At certain intervals the devices auto update it's firmware and the software is also updated to add and remove functionality. I presume in one such upgrade the way the Chromecast can be managed from an Android cellphone has changed and good working functions have been removed such as audio control. Casting to device works momentarily, then in a matter of few minutes the device disconnects from the cellphone. Sometimes stops playing videos mid-steam.

Chromecast now behaves just what I would expect from a poorly designed and operating product. Sad part is this is not how it was only a few months ago. Hence asking if its time to move to the competition if Google has no interest in fixing the user reported problems?

I am having the same issues - 7 chromecasts on 7 tv’s. Been working fine for several years.  Now on my main tv I have to disconnect the power to the chromecast every day to get the chromecast to appear on my list on my phone.  Bedroom tv also has problems, sometimes it’s there, sometimes it’s not.  The only one that always appears is a first generation one I have in my guest room

Hey there,

I am really sorry to hear that your Chromecast is giving you so much trouble. I know how frustrating it is when the device works great, then suddenly becomes problematic because of an update. If you have the time, would you be able to re-create this issue, then submit feedback via the Google Home app with logs enabled? That way, our engineering team can look into these problems a bit deeper.

I'm sorry I couldn't have been more help, but if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know.

Best regards,
Jeran

I think over the last week the  Chromecast functionality has gotten better and i can now control its audio from the cell phone. However the Chromecast still has a problem staying connected with the cellphone and keeps disconnecting (while using YouTube and Netflix).

Similar problem is not encountered if using the cellphone with the TV Built in streaming device from the same apps.

I'm glad to hear that your experience is improving, but let's see if we can resolve those connection issues. In this scenario, I'd first check out this article on common Chromecast connection issues, as it has a checklist of items and troubleshooting steps that may help out. Give that a read, and let me know if the issues persist.

Best regards,

The help article shared talks about subject:
"I can't establish a Wi-Fi connection to my Chromecast"

I can get connected properly to all Chromecast devices from within YouTube, but in about 5 minutes the connection gets lost and I have to reconnect it to play other videos. This is a repetitive process as Chromecast keeps disconnecting from the cellphone YouTube app within 5 minutes of making a connection to the device.

But this problem is not encountered when the connection is made from the same cellphone YouTube app to the Samsung's built-in streaming device.

That is an annoying issue for sure! Just out of curiosity, what kind of modem/router are you using? Also, do you only notice this issue with YouTube app from your cellphone?

If the issue is only occurring with the YouTube app, it may be worth it to clear out the cached data from the app, or even re-installing it.

However, if the issue happens across devices and apps, here is a nice list of troubleshooting connections issues that may help as well. Go ahead and look at that list of steps to see if they help at all.

I look forward to your response!

Best regards.

Hi Jeran,

Since last week the performance of all my Chromecast devices had improved five fold. It's back to working correctly with some new added features such as an on screen remote control which is a cool feature.

As of today things are back to the way they used to work before. So that's a big improvement in my experience of Chromecast. 👍

Now if I had some way to control the annoying advertisement infestation unleashed by YouTube in recent weeks, it would be a dream to use both these Google products together.

Thanks for believing and caring about your customers. 😎
