Chromecast problems?

Has the Chromecast stopped working again? I don't see the cast icon in the streaming apps, and in Google Home it says that the Chromecast is unavailable. I'd like to know if there's any known issue before I start troubleshooting. It was working as it should yesterday.

Thank you for posting in the community. I see that your Chromecast was working perfectly yesterday but has now gone offline on the Google Home app, and the cast icon has disappeared from all your apps. Let's quickly try a few common fixes to get your streaming back on track.

Since it was working yesterday, this likely indicates a local issue with your configuration. Here's what you can try:

  1. Power cycle your Chromecast:

    • Unplug the power cable from your Chromecast device (at the Chromecast itself or the power adapter).

    • Wait about 60 seconds.

    • Plug the power cable back in and let it restart.

    • Check if the cast icon reappears in your streaming apps and if the Chromecast shows as available in the Google Home app.

  2. Reboot your router:

    • Unplug the power cable from your Wi-Fi router.

    • Wait about 30 seconds.

    • Plug the power cable back in and let it fully restart.

    • Once your router is back online, check if the Chromecast is working.

  3. Force close and reopen the Google Home app:

    • Completely close the Google Home app on your phone or tablet.

    • Wait a few seconds, then reopen it.

    • Check if your Chromecast is now listed as available.

  4. Ensure your phone/tablet is on the same Wi-Fi network.

    • Double-check that the Wi-Fi network your phone or tablet is connected to is the same network your Chromecast is configured to use.

  5. Restart your phone/tablet.
