Chromecast rebooting after steaming 10 minutes or so

Chromecast will automatically reboot after I begin streaming 10 to 15 minutes.  I have power cycled and rebooted with no change. Is this a known issue? Anything else I can do to fix?

Hi Cbrown0904,

Are you using the Google supplied power adapter and lead?

Regards,
Cathal

Yes, I am the Google supplied cable and power adapter.

Also,  I performed a factory reset and the same the issue occurred with the rebooting after 10 to 15 minutes of streaming.

Hi again, is your device still within the manufacturer warranty period?

It might be worth trying another (at least 5 V, 1 A power supply) if you have one to check if it's an insufficient power supply causing the rebooting?

Cathal

I changed outlets and no change. I received the Chromecast as a gift and I don't know how long ago. So I think the warranty period has most likely ended.

Hi again,

This is a common issue with Chromecast devices being underpowered.

Definitely do not use a USB port on the back or side of a TV. Also a lot of mobile phone chargers are designed to charge batteries and not provide a stable constant current that a Chromecast device needs.

I am using the Google supplied cable and power adapter, which is plugged into a wall outlet.  No USB, mobile, nor cellphone equipment were ever used.

I myself am just another user on this community forum but I will flag this for the attention of a community specialist.

Hopefully they can help further.

In the meantime please try factory resetting your Chromecast to see if the issue is still there because that's what they will also recommend that you try.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the help here, Cathal_S.

Cbrown0904, thanks for reaching out and for trying the steps Cathal_S provided. What Chromecast device are we working on? Do you have another Chromecast device? If so, could you try to switch power cords and observe if it will make a difference? Plugging it to another power outlet will also help us further isolate the issue.

I look forward to your response.

Regards,

Juni

Hi Juni, I don't have another Chromecast device only one, which is just a Chromecast (3rd generation). I have switched it to another power outlet and so far so good. No rebooting...so hopefully all is resolved.

Great news,

Hopefully this fixes your issue 🤞
