Chromecast remote volume control occasionally stops working

Bellwar

I recently purchased a new Chromecast with Google TV and wanted to implement it into my setup.
Set up is: Pioneer - TV and Reciever with a wired speaker set up in the room. Chromecast is plugged directly into the HDMI on my receiver.

I went through the set-up process and configured everything. The remote control is able to turn on and off the TV and Reciever and is also able to control the volume. The problem appears when opening any app (from YouTube to third-party apps like UPC TV). The situation varies in every instance no matter what app I am using.

Sometimes it works without any problem.
Sometimes it stops working after 2-3 volume adjustments. This can be resolved by going back to the home menu (you can immediately control the volume), waiting to come back to the app and the control continues to work.
Othertimes, coming back to the home menu, you can control the volume but returning to the app stops it immediately.

Lastly, usually after some hiccups at some point, it stops completely and the whole setup has to be restarted to enable the volume control again.

To be honest, the whole situation is very puzzling as there is no consistency. I tried to search for any tips but couldn't find anything. Be happy is there is someone that can help me debug this or find a solution.

Hi Bellwar,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. We’re sorry for the trouble, and this is not the experience that we wanted you to have. Let’s use the process of elimination approach. Disconnect it from the receiver and connect it directly to the TV’s HDMI port. Observe if the same behavior will persist. From there, Chromecast to the receiver without the speakers and the receiver to the TV, and so on. The objective is to identify where the issue surfaces.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Kimy
