Chromecast started to cast in wrong aspect ratio

Hello,

I've has chromecast for years and it has worked perfectly well until yesterday when it started to cast in the wrong aspect ratio to the TV. Instead of 16:9 the picture now looks like it is compressed to fit 21:9 and is utterly unwatchable.

I have not messed with any settings in the TV or chromecast and it does not matter from where I cast, PC, phone, in apps or from chrome.

What could cause this issue?

Thanks for reaching out. What type of Chromecast device do you have? If you have a Chromecast with Google TV, could you please check the aspect ratio set in the Display and Sound settings? Also, reboot your Chromecast and plug it in on a different HDMI port on your TV. 

If the issue persists, plug it into a different TV screen if one is available so we can isolate the issue.
