I've set up my new Chromecast with Google TV on a Dell 34" Ultrawide monitor and I (wrongly) assumed that it would support the 21:9 aspect ratio. However, the chromecast outputs at 16:9 and stretches the image to the full monitor size, instead of showing black bars on the left and right sides. Is it possible to change the chromecast output to 21:9? So far, everything I've found online says no. And unfortunately, the dell monitor doesn't have a setting that forces the image to 16:9 (its options are oddly 21:9, 5:4, and 4:3). Hoping for a solution or even a work-around.

Does your monitor have any options for vertical scaling? If so, use it.

It does not. Just has the aspect ratio options I mentioned in the initial post.

Hey there smoheath,
I was looking at the Chromecast with Google TV specs and settings, and the only things I could find were that it supports all resolutions: 480p, 720p, 1080p, 2160p output (User Interface default is 1080p) Aspect Ratio: 16:9, and 4K HDR Dolby Vision, in up to 60 fps. I do not think there is a setting to change the Chromecast output, unfortunately. If this is a feature you'd like to see in the future, I'd encourage you to submit feedback via Google TV to let Google know.
I'm sorry I couldn't have been more helpful, but if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know.
Best regards,
Jeran
