Chromecast with android tv 4k can not play back MKV files.

I have a library of Movies on a plex server in MKV format. They play back just fine using the plex app on PC, Android, my smart LG tv, a Samsung smart tv, and even a Mi stick with Android TV on it. But not on the Android TV Chrome cast. WTF google. China using your own software are literally doing it better.

Hi Gleepicus,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. I just want to confirm if you’re using a Chromecast with Google TV or a branded Android TV with Chromecast built-in. Plex shows and movies are available for installation in Chromecast with Google TV; however, the Plex Media Server is not.

I found this thread: No Plex app on Chromecast Google TV? posted on our Google Play Help Community. I hope this helps. Let us know if you have other questions or concerns.

Thanks,

Kimy

It is a Google Chromecast running Android TV. A separate device connected to a TV. It runs the Plex client app available in the play store. The server is a windows pc.

The chrome cast app can stream .Avi and .mp4 files just fine but not MKVs

To summarise. There is an app. The app works with all other type of files I have tried. MKV files does not.

A lower power sluggish china product with the same features running the same Android TV software with the Plex client downloaded from the same play store can play them back fine
