Chromecast with google tv closes now tv

I have been using 2nd gen chromecasts, one in my bedroom and one in the living room for years with no issues. I have recently upgraded to the chromecast with google tv 4k for the living room and HD for the bedroom. I have 900mb broadband with a mesh system in the bedroom so no problem with speeds but when casting Now TV, the steam just stops and the chromecast returns to the homescreen.

I have the old 2nd gen one plugged in the same tv to use now tv at the moment and there's no issues.

Does anyone know if this is a known issue or how to resolve it?

Hi Samherby,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community. I'm sorry that your Chromecast is not connecting and your cast feature does not work with a specific app. I’d be happy to help you. Let’s check it out.

Before we get started with further troubleshooting, let me ask you some questions:

  1. How far is the Chromecast from the router?
  2. How far is the casting device from the TV when they try to cast?
  3. Is the internet connection stable?
  4. Has there been any changes on the router settings?
  5. Are the devices connected to the same network?

Let's see some basic troubleshooting steps you can check in the meantime:

Basic Checks:

  1. Power and Connection:
    • Ensure both your Chromecast and device are powered on and securely plugged in.
    • Verify the Chromecast is connected to the correct HDMI port on your TV.
  2. Input Source:
    • Make sure your TV's input source is set to the HDMI port where the Chromecast is connected. Most TVs have an "Input" or "Source" button to cycle through different inputs.

Casting Issues:

  1. Casting Device:
    • Confirm you're casting from a device compatible with Chromecast. This includes smartphones, tablets, laptops, and computers with Chrome browser.
  2. Wi-Fi Connection:
    • Both your Chromecast and casting device need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
    • Check if your Wi-Fi signal is strong enough. Try moving the Chromecast closer to your Wi-Fi router for a better connection.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Restart Devices:
    • A simple restart can sometimes resolve temporary glitches.
    • Unplug your Chromecast and TV from the power source for 30 seconds, then plug them back in and wait for them to boot up completely.
  2. Update Apps:
    • Ensure you have the latest versions of the Google Home app (for managing Chromecast) and the app you're casting from (Now TV) on your casting device. Updates often include bug fixes and performance improvements.

In case it helps, you can also follow this good article to Troubleshoot an issue: Chromecast or Reboot your Chromecast device.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Mario
