Connecting Chromecast 3 to Hotel Wi-Fi with Sign In

Babytayebae

The hotel I'm at has an open Wi-Fi network that takes you to a website to sign in. I can get to the screen from my Chromecast, but it won't let me check the box for "terms and conditions." It won't connect through my phone either. Anyone else able to solve this problem?

Hi Babytayebae,

Thank you for reaching out to the Google Nest Community team! I'm sorry to hear about the inconvenience you’re facing while trying to set up your Chromecast (3rd Gen) while staying at your hotel. I'll do my best to find a solution for you.

To better understand the situation, please help me by answering the following questions:

  • Was the Chromecast set up before?
  • Does the "terms and conditions” option appear as gray out?
  • While doing the set up process, do you see any error messages?
  • What is the firmware version of your Chromecast?
  • Does the same issue occur when connecting to different network bands, such as 2.4GHz or 5GHz?

Additionally, I will share some troubleshooting steps; please give them a try:

  • Please make sure the Google Home App is on its latest version.
  • Depending on the model of your Chromecast, you can perform a soft reset (reboot) on your device.
  • If by doing the previous step the inconvenience still exists, the next step is to do a factory reset on your Chromecast device.

Please feel free to let me know once you're done.

Best Regards,

Jonathan

It was set up before.

It's not grayed out. I can move the cursor over the T&C, but if I select it, it just tells me to select it.

No

No idea, the newest one.

No, it connects fine, I just can't select the terms and conditions on the bonus sign in screen. You know when you connect to a network and then it takes you to a browser to sign in? I can type in the username and password, but I can't select the terms and conditions button.

Hi there,

Thanks for the reply!

I genuinely understand the inconvenience you are having while trying to complete the setup process. In this case, as the option comes while you try to sign in through the hotel's WiFi network, there is a chance this could be because of something related to the restrictions on the open connection. Do not worry, I will work to find a solution here!

I will share some options you could try in order to complete the set-up process:

  1. You can reboot your phone, clear the cache, or even look to see if there are any pending software updates.
  2. Try to use a different phone; you can try with another phone or even a tablet.
  3. If possible, you could use a hotspot network. You should have two devices (one as a setup device and the other with the hotspot as a router). This is because most devices won’t allow both Wi-Fi and mobile hotspots to work at the same time. However, if you take a look at this article, mobile hotspots are not technically an approved network type for Google Nest products.

Please feel free to let me know once you're done.

Best Regards,

Jonathan
