Surround Sound Enabled Error.

Trying to adjust volume of my tvs with both android and apple phones through google home app but chromecasts are displaying message saying " surround sound enabled. please adjust volume with tv remote." Error is appearing when changing the volume on multiple apps (Prime Video, Netflix, Hulu, and Peacock)

Hi there!


 

I'd be happy to help you troubleshoot the "Surround sound enabled" error on your Chromecast. Here's what we can try:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Remotes and Accessories.
  3. Select Set up Remote Buttons.
  4. Select Volume Control.

Now based on your post I can imagine you’ve choosed the option “Auto (CEC)”.

Please try with the other 2 options that are available: 

[TV Name] (IR*) or Chromecast Volume 

To see which works best for you.

For step 1, when you say go to Settings.

Do you mean Setting in Google Home?

I am not seeing Remotes and Accessories in Google Home.

Is on your TV using your remote control.

I am using a gen 3 Chromecast that does not use a physical remote. 

I am only controlling the volume from the individual streaming apps and the Google home app.

 

Neither of those instructions work with Chromecast Gen 3.
