Cromecast Google TV 4k (Android 14)

Artan
Community Member

Today, the Android 14 update arrived on my Chromecast Google TV 4K. I installed it, but my remote control is responding too slowly. My apps for live TV—Zattoo (Live TV), Sky Switzerland, Netflix, and others—are reacting very slowly. The picture is extremely laggy, like in slow motion. Android 12 was much better and fixed this problem.

Hi Artan,

Thank you for posting in this community.

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing performance inconveniences, including remote control delays and severe picture lag, on your Chromecast with Google TV (4K) after installing the Android 14 update. I’ll do my best to help you out.

Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

  • Are you using the latest version of the Google Home app? If not, you can learn how to update it here: How to update the Google Home app
  • How far from the router is your Chromecast with Google TV (4K) located?
  • Is your Chromecast with Google TV (4K) and mobile device connected to a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz WiFi network?
  • What's the Chromecast with Google TV (4K)'s firmware version? You can use this Google Help Center article as a reference: Find your device’s firmware version.
  • Could you please perform an internet speed test while you are streaming a movie with your Google TV Streamer 4K?
  • How far from the streaming device are you when you try to use the Voice Remote?

In the meantime, I recommend you free up storage on Chromecast with Google TV (4K). Please follow these instructions:

1.  Clear your cache. To clear the cache for all apps on your device:

  • Turn on your Chromecast with Google TV (4K).
  • Go to the home screen of your streaming device.
  • Navigate to your profile icon.
  • Select “Settings.”
  • Then choose “System,” tap “Storage,”
  • Choose “Internal shared storage” and tap on “Cache data.”
  • Select OK to clear cached data for all apps.

2.  Uninstall apps that you don’t use:

  • Navigate to your profile icon.
  • Select “Settings.”
  • Choose “Apps,” then “See all apps.”
  • Choose an app, then select “Uninstall,” then tap “OK.”

I’ll look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Virna

Hi Artan,

Thanks for your prompt response! I appreciate the time you invested to provide me with the requested information. This helps me better assist you. Let's continue working to resolve this inconvenience.

1.  Verify that the Chromecast with Google TV (4K) update was completed. Please follow these instructions:

  1. From the Google TV home screen, go to your profile picture.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select System, then choose About.
  4. Select System update.
  5. You will see a firmware number. Please share this number with me. If an update is available, please install it. If the system is already up to date, you will see a message stating, "The system is updated."

After checking the update, see if your Chromecast with Google TV (4K) has improved. If the inconveniences persist, proceed to the next step.

2.  Reboot the Chromecast with Google TV (4K) by following these steps:

  1. Unplug the USB-C connection from your Chromecast with Google TV (4K) to disconnect it from the power source.
  2. Leave the device unplugged for one minute, then plug it back in.

  2. Check if the router's LED lights are off when it's unplugged. Some routers have backup battery packs, so you may need to disconnect these to ensure the router completely turns off.
  3. After 2 minutes have passed, plug in the router.
  4. Once the router's LED lights are on and the network name appears on your mobile device's Wi-Fi list, verify that your Chromecast with Google TV (4K) connects to the Wi-Fi network.
  5. For dual-band routers, make sure to connect both your Chromecast with Google TV (4K) and your smartphone to the same Wi-Fi band (2.4 or 5 GHz).

4.  Turn on the Quick Start option for your Chromecast with Google TV (4K):

  1. From the Google TV home screen, at the top right, go to the profile icon.
  2. Select Settings, then System, then choose Power & energy.
  3. Turn on Quick start.

I tested it with both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi – the same error occurs. The internet router is right next to the Chromecast Google TV 4K.
Cast firmware: 3.72.446070.
Yes, I've already uninstalled and reinstalled the apps.
My internet speed is 300 Mbps.
I clear the cache almost daily.
The problem only occurred after the Android 14 update – everything worked perfectly before that.

Chromecast software is up to date, I restarted the router, and I unplugged the Chromecast from power several times — nothing helped. Quick Start is ... on.

I got a Chromecast with Google TV 4K from a friend who bought a Sony Android TV, and I signed up for it. Luckily, his Chromecast was still running Google TV 12.

I haven't had any issues—everything works perfectly. As long as everything runs smoothly, I won't update the software.

Now the Chromecast with Google TV 4K updated to Android 14 without my consent, and as expected, it's completely buggy — whether it's IPTV, TiviMate, VLC, Netflix, Disney+ and others. Would it help to reset and reconfigure the Chromecast with Google TV 4K?"

Subject: Serious issue with 50 FPS TV streams after Android 14 update on Chromecast Google TV 4K

Message:

Dear Google Team,

I would like to report an urgent issue that has been occurring since the Android 14 update on my Chromecast Google TV 4K, severely impacting usage.

Problem description:

TV apps like TVmate and Smart IPTV can no longer correctly play 50 FPS live TV channels.

The refresh rate is suddenly limited to 30 FPS, even though 50 Hz output is enabled.

This results in noticeable stuttering and a slow-motion-like playback on channels that previously played smoothly.

This problem did not occur on Android 12, where 50 Hz worked flawlessly.

Actions taken so far:

HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG were disabled, leaving only SDR active.

Automatic refresh rate switching has been checked.

HDMI cables and ports were swapped.

Both TVmate and Smart IPTV apps were tested, and both show the same issue.

Chromecast and TV are updated to the latest firmware versions.

Impact:

Use of live TV apps is severely impaired.

The problem clearly appears related to the Android 14 firmware on Chromecast Google TV 4K.

I kindly request a prompt fix via update, as many users including myself are heavily affected.

Thank you for your support.

Best regards,
