Dolby Vision Appears Too Dark on Google Streamer 4K

I’ve been using Chromecast with Google TV 4K for the past three years now I switched to Google Streamer and I’ve noticed a significant issue with Dolby Vision content recently:

  1. Dolby Vision Playback Issue: The content appears too dark, making dark scenes almost unwatchable. Even brighter scenes feel underwhelming in terms of brightness and color vibrancy.
  2. HDR Works Fine: HDR10 content displays perfectly, so the problem seems specific to Dolby Vision.
  3. Black Screen on Third-Party Players: Most media players (Exo Player, Kodi, MX Player, VLC) show a black screen when trying to play Dolby Vision content. Only Vimu Player works without issues.
  4. Device and Updates:
    • I use a Sony X95H TV.
    • Streamer TV firmware is up to date.
    • It’s been over four months with no updates from Google addressing this.

What I’ve Tried So Far:

  • Adjusting TV settings (Dolby Vision Bright/Dark profiles).
  • Changing HDMI ports and enabling enhanced settings.
  • Using different media players.
  • Forcing SDR output as a workaround (not ideal).

Questions:

  • Has anyone else experienced this issue with Dolby Vision on  Google  Streamer 4K?
  • Any permanent fixes or optimizations that have worked for you?
  • Could this be a device-specific hardware problem or a broader software issue?

I’d appreciate any insights or tips. Thank you!

I have the same problem on LG G4. Dolby vision is lot darker on streamer than on the native app. Seems like a bug.
