Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Something went wrong error

"we could not communicate with it from your iPhone. Make sure that you have enabled local network access in your iPhone’s privacy settings. Then try again."

Tried to change privacy settings. Rebooted/restarted wifi connection and chromecast. Same issue

All of a sudden Chromecast doesnt work. Now can be found by IPhone or Ipad. Any ideas> I’ve tried all the resets available, and still nothing . Very annoying .

I’ve turned off and unplugged everything, factory reset my chromecast, updated my phone, updated my apps, made sure my local network access is on, even called Apple helpdesk and I still receive this message:

Family room tv may be set up, but we could not communicate with it  from your iPhone. Make sure that you have enabled local network access in your privacy settings and try again.

Local network access is definitely on. i don’t know how else to solve this issue. My phone used to connect no problem. Chrome cast light is white, both devices on same wifi.

It worked fine two days ago.
I’ve tried getting google callback but that was 4 hours ago…

I’ve also tried connecting via the manual option seen here previously but that doesn’t work either.

Hey

my chrome cast suddenly stopped working.

i have tried to reinstall it, and followed all “how to do” I can get as far as to “connected” in the setup. And the I get a fail, that I had contact to the WiFi, but I have to allow local network in the google home app and tri again. The local network is enabled on the the google home app. And I still got the same error?
can any one please help.
I have another chrome cast in the house in another room, with no issues. I have also tried on different phones - still same problem.
I have tried resetting WiFi, google home app and also the chrome cast.?
regards Tim

Following post. Also having this issue. Did everything in the ‘get help’ nothing worked. Tried setting up with different devices, still nothing. Seems might be a google issue?

I just said to myself, screw it. I went out and bought a new Google TV streamer.

Lucky you I don’t have that luxury 😩 to buy anything new

Same here.. I don't have the money to buy something else... sad

Werid the exact same thing just happened to mine2!!!!

im having the same issue with my Chromecast Audio today. I've reset the device, switched off my router and mobile device.

I'm guessing they just stopped allowing us to use an older Gen Chromecast or something, but one of my two Chromecasts just quit and I tried reinstall and I'm getting "we can't authenticate"... Contact Google support type message.

Following. Mine also stopped working just now. I was just using it last night. I got a "Only available for specific video sites" message when i try to cast from both phone and Google Chrome on my Macbook. I've reset my Chromecast and my wifi connection but when I try to setup via Google Home it gets all the way to connecting to my wifi but it just says "Chromecast can be setup but iphone can't communicate with your device. Check your Privacy Settings". But when I do check the settings, it is on. I don't know what happened. It was working perfectly fine yesterday, now it isn't.

Same thing happened to me, I was on mine last night, now it won't connect at all, says it's a wifi issue which it isn't.

Having the same issue "Chromecast can be setup but iphone can't communicate with your device privacy settings but they are all ok

have tried resetting and nothing is working

Having same issue.......won't authenticate.....

What is the solution???

Same issue starting last night on one of my three Chromecast.  The failed one is a Chromecast 2, and two working an original Chromecast and a new Chromecast with Google TV.  I tried restart router, and reboot all my AP's, and nothing helped.  I reset the Chromecast to factory default and reconnect using my iphone Google Home App.  It goes through the setup procedure and fails connect to WiFi network.

Is there anybody from google here that can actually provide any information / solutions?

tarrifs?

Exact same happend to me, tried absolutely everything but nothing seems to work

In Canada, same thing happened. Might be related to this thread
https://www.tomsguide.com/entertainment/streaming-devices/chromecast-fail-users-across-the-world-are...
They are saying a workaround available by manually setting the date on your phone to 8th March, 2025(any date before 9th March, 2025) and then registering the chromecast. Honestly, I haven't tried it yet.

My initial issue was I have 2 Chromecast gen 2 devices, which showed "available for specific video sites" error when tried to cast to them via my Window 11. I checked Windows update and couldn't find any recent update which could have done it. After resetting one Chromecast, I was unable to register it back in Google Home even trying for 3 different phones (android and ios). I gave up yesterday and today, found this thread where they mentioned a intermediate certicate expired on 9th March, 2025 for Chromecast gen2 and Chromecast audio devices.

Hopefully, this helps. I'll update if the workaround works for me for registering the chromecast in google home after setting date and time manually on my phone.
