Glitchy bluetooth connection

jawnjoseph

I am using my Chromecast with a projector and a soundbar. I have been able to connect to the soundbar via bluetooth, but the connection is off-sync and sound quality is unacceptable, scratchy sounding. I saw the suggestion to initially connect bluetooth with the Chromecast closer to the soundbar and that did work; the connection did sound better. But after setting it back up at the projector, about 10 feet away with nothing between the Google TV and the soundbar, the glitch is back. My phone connects well to the soundbar, from 10 feet away and further, so I have to think the issue lies with the Chromecast. Any help is appreciated.

Hi jawnjoseph,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. You mentioned that it works well when it’s near the soundbar. The issue happens when it’s moved, even without any obstruction. It could also be interference that’s causing this. I understand that your smartphone maintains a consistent Bluetooth connection, and that is due to a hardware advantage. How about trial and error as you move it around until you find a suitable spot with good sound? Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Kimy,

I appreciate the response but moving this around is not really an option. The projector I am using needs to stay about 10 feet from the soundbar. The only way to move the Google TV unit closer to the soundbar is to run an HDMI cable through my ceiling to move the dongle close to the soundbar. This is a difficult and frustrating way to resolve this. Bluetooth should support a distance of 10 feet. Can you share any info on your mention of my phone's "hardware advantage"? Do any of the other Google TV products have an improved Bluetooth range?

Hi Jon,

Thanks for the reply. It seems that you already have a preferred setup/positioning. As per hardware advantage, newer versions of smartphones use Bluetooth 5.0 or higher, while Chromecast with Google TV uses 4.2, as you can see here: Chromecast specifications. You can try to refresh the communication between these devices by rebooting both. If it persists, try a factory reset for a full clean-up. Let us know how it goes.
