Google Assistant does not turn my TV on with Google tv streamer

RexGolf

My Google tv streamer is installed. Remote works fine for turning on TV via button and CEC. But with my old Chromecast dongle, I could use Google assistant to turn on the attached tv. I would just say "Hey Google, turn on the Living Room TV" and it would start the tv and go to the Google TV home page. Now when I give that voice command, I hear the same noise I used to hear with the Chromecast dongle but the TV does not turn on. Seems like Assitant is turning on the streamer but not the TV. Have checked the CEC settings, etc. but no luck. Any help will be appreciated.

Hi @RexGolf,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that the Google Assistant on your new Google TV Streamer isn't turning on your TV via CEC as expected, especially since it worked fine with your old Chromecast. Don't worry, help is here.

To gather all the necessary information and provide you with the best assistance, please answer the following questions:

  • Is your Google Home app updated?

  • Are your Google TV Streamer and your TV updated?

  • Do you have the same issue with another command?

  • What is the make and model of your TV?

I'll be waiting for your reply.

Best regards.

Derick.

Thanks for responding. It's getting weirder. I think my Home app is updated but I can't find a function in the app that says Update. I updated ALL apps on my phone. And I went to Play Store to look at Home and it says Installed and there is an Open button which I hit and it opens the app.

My streamer was just installed and I checked System Update. It is current.

When I say "Hey Google turn on/off the Living Room TV" I hear the typical whoosh noise but the TV remains off. If the TV is on and I request it to go off, Google TV turns off but the TV stays on. And now NONE of my three TVs work with Assistant Voice commands. They all worked before I installed the Streamer. The three brands as Specter, Vizio, and Panasonic. Very weird that installing the streamer disabled the CEC on all three TVs. Something weird going on.

Oh, and the other two TV still have Chromecast dongles which worked well before I got the Streamer.

Also, when I ask my nest or minis to turn on or off a TV, it says "OK, turning on Living Room TV" but the TV does not come on. Again, this makes me think Assistant is communicating with my dongles and TV Streamer but something is preventing those devices from actually turning on the TVs.
