Google Chromecast HD keeps disconnecting from wifi

Hello there,
I have an issue that I saw some other people have too, but none of the proposed solutions worked for me.

I have a Google Chromecast HD, it works well for the last few years but since two months it keeps disconnecting the wifi (but the wifi still appears in the list of networks saved).

I tried :

  • Checking that my wifi is good (my other devices never disconnected)
  • Rebooting my wifi router
  • Checking if the wifi keeps disconnecting by using 2 (two !) phones hotspot's (and it still disconnected the wifi)
  • Doing the last system updates
  • Reseting to factory the device
  • Tinkering the energy optimisations settings (sigh)

I really need some help cause i realy don't know what i can do now.

Thanks for reading.
S.

I too have this issue. If you watch the connection in the wifi settings you can see it flashing from 'Connected' to 'No Internet' every so often. Signal strength says excellent. I only seem to get the message pop up in the top right in YouTube though. See pics. 20250830_225814.jpg20250830_225825.jpgThe streaming doesn't stop but the message is annoying.

Any thoughts?

For info I'm in the UK using EE broadband. My set up has worked well for years and this has only recently been happening the past few months.

Further to this, I have just watched the wifi connection screen on the Chromecast HD a bit more and noticed when the connection status changes to 'No Internet' the IP6 addresses disappear so I changed the IP6 allocation mode settings on my router to 'Off' from 'Stateless'. The message and disconnection status appears to have stopped. I'll keep monitoring to see if it comes back.

Hope this helps shed a light on this.

Also having this issue with my chromcast, it appears as the usual slideshow on my tv, but when I try to connect to it from any streaming app or the google home app, says not able to connect or the device is not available. Recall having this same issue a number of months ago, and my inclination was to factory reset the device. Well come to find out 2 hours after that didn’t work that they had now advised people not to reset them, and it delayed the troubleshooting time even more. So I’m very conflicted as what to do

Hello everyone,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Nest Community Forum. I’m sorry to know that your Google Chromecast HD keeps disconnecting from the WiFi network. I truly appreciate the effort you have already tried by performing troubleshooting steps. I’m happy to help. So let's explore more troubleshooting options:

  1. If your router has an explicit "WPA3 Transition Disable Indication (TDI)" feature, disable this setting. This information can usually be found under the router's advanced Wi-Fi settings.
  2. Alternatively, change the router's setting from WPA2/WPA3 mixed mode to WPA2 only. This information can usually be found under the router's Wi-Fi settings.
  3. Forget the network on the Chromecast with Google TV and reboot the device.
  4. Reconnect to the Wi-Fi network

Please note: in rare cases, if any other device disconnects after adjusting these settings, users may need to forget the network on the device and then reconnect again.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Daniel

Hello @moralesvicente, thank you for your answer.

I just tried what you proposed but it doesn't work neither.
It was on WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]
And I turned it on WPA2-PSK [AES]

Since my last post, I also tried my device on an other wifi's home to be sure and it still disconnects by itself (but the wifi still appears in the wifi list).

For godsake when are Google going to stop ignoring there is a major issue with the devices since they **bleep**ed up android 14. I really think this site is a complete waste of our time as you get the same advice from the Google team when they know it ain’t gonna work
