Google Chromecast with google TV not connecting to WiFi

Ckl

Hey guys,

I'm having an issue with the initial setup of my Google Chromecast with google TV. Whenever I reach the WiFi connection stage, I enter in the WiFi password but it comes up saying it can't connect to it. I've entered in the correct password, reset the router and unplugged and plugged the chromecast from both the TV and the power outlet for about 5 minutes to no avail. Would love to get this sorted out and get this thing working. Thanks in advance people!

Try these steps:

  1. Make sure your Chromecast is within 15 - 20 ft (4 - 6 m) of the Wi-Fi router. If you have a dual band router, try to set up your device on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.

  2. Make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are both turned ON on your phone or tablet.

  3. Turn OFF mobile/cellular data.

  4. Reboot your router. Most routers just require that you unplug the power source and then plug it back in to reboot.

  5. Reboot Chromecast by removing the power cable, then reconnect it.

  6. Make sure you're using the latest version of the Google Home app, by checking your app store for any updates.

  7. Restart the Google Home app.
  • Android: Swipe up from the bottom, hold, then let go. Swipe up on the Google Home app.
  • iPhone/iPad: Swipe up from the bottom, hold, then let go. Swipe up on the Google Home app. On older devices with a home button, double-click the Home button, then swipe up on the Google Home app.
  • Turn Wi-Fi off and on again on your phone or tablet.
  • Reopen the Google Home app.

If none of the steps above help, factory reset your Chromecast and then retry setup. You may also want to try setup using a different phone or tablet, just to test, if you have one.

Thank you for this. Unfortunately I've tried all of the steps and haven't had any luck :(. If anyone has a suggestion I would be so grateful!

Hi folks,

Thanks for the help, davidking. I appreciate it.

Ckl, quick question: What are you using to set up the Chromecast with Google TV, is it the Google Home app or your Chromecast Voice Remote?

If you're using the Google Home app, please try to manually connect to the Chromecast SSID. Here's how: Go to the phone’s Settings > Open WiFi and connect to the Chromecast SSID (Example: Chromecast1234, Living Room TV, Bedroom TV, etc.) > Go to the Google Home app and try to set up again.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hey Jennifer,

Thank you so much for your help. I think it turned out in the end to be a faulty system. Google were amazing and sent out a replacement thankfully!
