Google Nest doesn’t open specific app requests

Hi, recently my Google Nest stopped opening specific requests on the Chromecast. If I ask “hey Google, launch Netflix/Youtube/Spotify/etc” it opens without any issues. However, if I say something like “Hey Google, play Friends on Netflix on TV”, or “Hey Google, play funny videos on YouTube on TV” all I get is “Sorry, something went wrong. When you are ready, give it another try.”.

Moreover, if I ask it to pause a movie on Netflix, change volume, etc. it doesn’t work, but it used to. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Hi @Ribeiro,

Thank you very much for contacting this community! I understand that your Nest device has stopped opening specific requests on the Chromecast even when you have used some specific voice commands in some apps, but when you use a voice command like "Hey Google, launch Netflix/Youtube/Spotify/etc," it works perfectly fine. I'm here to help you!

  • Regarding the specific voice commands you've been using, I would like to ask you a few questions:
  • When you say "Google Nest," what is the specific model of your device?
  • Have you tried using other voice commands?
  • What is the model of your Chromecast?
  • What is the specific model of your TV?

In the meantime, I'd like to share some troubleshooting steps that might help you:

  • Make sure to turn on CEC (certain settings for some TVs can turn off CEC automatically.).
  • Plug Chromecast to a different HDMI port.
  • Unplug the TV> wait 10 minutes > plug it back in.
  • Try a different voice command.
  • If the TV is turned on or off repeatedly during a short time, the voice commands might not work . Wait about 10 minutes then try again.

Please feel free to share any additional details you think might be relevant.

Best regards,
Eduardo
