Google Pushed Out Some Bad Firmware That Messed Up WiFI

I don't know when this happened but Google has to have pushed out some bad firmware to Chromecast with Google TV (HD) devices. I've had one in my Living Room for years and have never had an issue with it. In the last month or 2 the device constantly drops the WiFi connection. I turn the WiFi off turn it back on and it rarely reconnects to my WiFi. I clock to connect and it says that it can't connect saying it can't find the WiFi network I have saved and is clear showing as as being broadcast. Our Roku device sitting basically right next to it has never had a problem.

Sometimes I have to completely forget the WiFi network set it back up and it will connect briefly and then just drop the connection showing absolutely no WiFi networks even though the WiFI is on, this includes not even showing any neighbors WiFi networks that generally show up. I've even gone so far as a complete factory reset which I only temporarily works. Once I do manage get things working after multiple attempts a power outage or Internet outage will mess it up again where I once again have to go through the whole song and dance of garbage to get it working again. I have 3 other Chromecasts as well as a Sony TV with GoogleTV that never have this problem. I'm so frustrated with what garbage this device has become when it has worked perfectly for years.

Is there some way to force flash new firmware again on these things. I shouldn't have to spend money to buy a new one, especially given that Google decided to make the stupid decision to force people to buy set top boxes now.

I think I have the same problem. Seems like the clock and date gets set to 30. April and then it will not connect to wifi. So I have to manually set time and date and then it works.

Oh, that's interesting. I haven't even paid attention to the date/time value. I'll have to keep any eye out for that as well.

OK, I checked this after having turned off the power to the outlet the Chromecast was on and you are absolutely right. They've screwed something up with their devices that are forcing them to the invalid Date/Time of April 30, 2025 at 1:21am. Especially when you are using dynamic IP addressing through DHCP the IP address lease date/time isn't going to match the device date/time. Google seriously needs to fix this!

The only bad thing is that simply fixing the date/time doesn't help this stay working either. After even a device reboot the date/time is reset and it's bad to square one trying to get the WiFi to connect and stay connected.
