Google Streamer remote pairing

Setting up my brand new Google TV Streamer but the remote won't pair. I've tried holding in the button on the back of the streamer until the 'searching for accessories screen' appears, then on the remote I'm holding the back arrow and home button until the light starts pulsing. Sometimes the remote is found and a message pops up to say it will be automatically paired within 9 seconds, the timer then ticks down and gets stuck on a number and never completes pairing.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, although I'm thinking I'm going to need to send this back to Google on day one 😞

I discovered an old Mibox in the house that had been switched on but not used in a long time, and it was somehow in Bluetooth pairing mode. So the counter timer that was getting stuck was related to the Mibox, not the Streamer control. The fix was to switch off the Mibox.

Similar issues here.  I noticed that the setup steps were not the same as in the setup streamer help video - my Streamer went straight to the language selection but the remote didn't work and trying to manually pair made no difference.

THE FIX: I figured if it was skipping the remote pair section it was automatically pairing with my Chromecast remote.  I tried my old Chromecast remote and that didn't help with the language selection.
However, before I did the second Streamer reset (power off for > 1 min) I removed the batteries from my old Chromecast remote.  Voila!  The Streamer showed me the startup screens as expected in the video and when I got to language selection I was able to select etc. with the Streamer remote.

Now up and running.

Summary: An old Chromecast remote with batteries in was my problem.

Thanks for the follow-up response @Geezagame. I was puzzled as to what could be causing the issue, but this is good to know about in case others have a similar issues. Let us know if you have further questions on the Google TV Streamer.
