I am having any amount of trouble getting Google Streamer to connect to my Google account.
i have a strong wifi signal all my passwords are correct. I come to the very last step in the Streamer setup and the message says cannot connect to Google account.
It is so so frustrating.
i have returned the first one I bought, to the retailer as I was having the same problem with that one as well.
Any one else having this problem??

Hi @RDS04,
Thank you for posting in the community. I’m sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues connecting your Google TV Streamer (4K) to your Google Account. I understand how frustrating it could be to encounter a "cannot connect to Google Account" error at the final setup stage. I appreciate that you've confirmed a strong Wi-Fi signal and correct passwords. I'm happy to assist.
To gather the necessary information, please answer the following questions:
Are you attempting to set it up using the Google Home app on your phone or directly on the TV using the streamer's remote?
Have you recently changed your Google Account password, or do you use 2-Step Verification on your Google Account?
I'll be waiting for your reply.
Best regards.
Derick.

Having the same or similar issue. In my case the device shows up on my account as local (only after a manual login) but when I try to assign to a room the result is the same "cannot connect to my Google account" but the streamer is already manually logged in to the account. Very strange. No ability to manage any home devices as a result.

Hi @CanuckGuy,
Thank you for posting in the community. I understand you're experiencing a similar issue where your device appears as local after a manual login, but you still receive a "cannot connect to my Google Account" error when trying to assign it to a room. I know this is not the experience you were expecting. I’m happy to assist you.

I tried a couple of factory resets and following the prescribed setup screens. In all 3 attempts it halted at the point where the device was being logged onto using my Google account, In all 3 attempts I initiated a manual setup completion, where I was able to log onto my account using my Google ID and password. In all cases the device ended up showing as a local device, I am unable to assign device to a room in my home. The device works for streaming, casting, but is unable to show any home devices to allow control, or access to ip cameras etc.

Hi there!
Thanks for your reply and confirming the troubleshooting steps you tried. Besides setting up the Google TV Streamer (4K) manually. I would recommend trying to use the Google Home app for the whole process. Please follow the instructions below:
Let me know how it goes.

On my 3 attempt the streamer was detected (all be it with a device name I did not recognize) and QR scan window came up in the home app. In previous attempts I had used my phone camera to capture the QR code and follow the URL to complete the process. In this third attempt I received a novel error message. This time saying "We couldn't authenticate your TV streamer. Please contact Google customer support.". In all three attempts I used the Google Home app on my phone per procedure provided only the 3rd time did it present a "scan QR code" camera capture in the Google Home app. The first 2 times it presented the QR code to scan on the TV but the Google Home app seamed to continue once I navigated to the URL link provided by my camera app. I am now convinced there is a bug/defect in the setup process that is resulting in a failure in attempting to login the streamer to my Google account when trying to assign the device to a room. I personally wonder about the "unable to authenticate the streamer" message. FYI I bought the device in Canada through Amazon's recent prime day sale.

Ok. 10 minutes after sending the above note. I was suddenly allowed to assign my new device to a Room. Yeah! No prompting to login the new device (that was already logged in at this point). Home function is now fully available in my new streamer! You can close this one😃

I have a new streamer and am having the same issue. Similar, have tries a couple of factory resets, made sure the updates all happened, but quickly get the "couldnt sign in" when trying to add to room. The setup process had a similar experience, so i had to log in manually to setup, however the setup process was going to google play services during the sign in, so looked like it was trying a bit harder, and took 30 seconds before failing for the 3 attempts.
Any idea exactly what it was that solved it?

I am unsure what resolved the issue for me. I used in Google Home app "feedback" a couple of times to capture the error. I wondered if someone actually touched my account in the background to fix the issue for me. Looking back on this thread one of the questions posed was if I had 2-step verification enabled. I do have that enabled. Maybe there is some issue with that process. Another thought was that "unable to authenticate" message I received related to a backend process to inventory legitimate "Google TV Streamer" hardware did not yet have record of my unit. All this is speculation on my part as I have no inside knowledge here. Good luck!

Thanks for that, you may have saved me another couple of hours in the factory reset, re-setup cycle trying to resolve this, I also gave feedback and I have 2-step verification also, so fingers crossed that it is some delay or external manual intervention that hopefully I have triggered.
