Google TV Streamer - Pink screen when playing Dolby Vision and freezes on HDR

I have my GTS attached to my Denon AVR-S960H which connects to my Sony 55XH9299. Unfortunately on some occasions a purple/pink screen appears when I try to get play DV-content (ripped 4K discs streaming through my server).

I already tried troubleshooting this by switching out HDMI-cables and go through all settings. I did notice that if I change the Dolby Vision-mode to Low Latency (from 'Auto') I get a black screen (no longer pink/purple). I also bypassed the receiver to rule out issues there but it does exactly the same.

The other issue I noticed is some HDR-content sometimes try start but freezes at the first frame it shows.

I also tried to check the colour space format but the GTS no longer seems to have this option (the CCwGTV 4K did have a seperate setting).

Same here, the older Google Chromecast did not have this problem so I know the TV, HDMI cable and Audio Receiver is good.

Same issue here. Just picked up the GTV Streamer and I’m really disappointed in this happening now.
How long before we see an update to fix it? And also I notice that HDR10+ isn’t supported either, can that also be looked into and fixed?

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting in our community.

It can be frustrating to see a pink screen instead of your favorite shows when playing Dolby Vision content. Let’s determine why this happens and get your Google TV Streamers running.

I would like to know. Were you able to play Dolby Vision content at some point? If you were, when did you notice this first happening?

Please check if the devices you’re using with your Google TV Streamer are on their latest software update. Then, you can try following this article to reboot your Google TV Streamer to provide us with additional insight as to why Dolby Vision content is displaying that way.

If you have an HDMI connection, make sure the cable you’re using is HDMI 2.1 certified or labeled as “Ultra High Speed” and is fully plugged into the HDMI port.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,

Angel.

I can play Dolby Vision, its just that pink/purple screen appear occasionally. It only appears for a split second and it happens like 3-5 times while watching a movie. My Google TV Streamer is on the latest firmware and is connected via HDMI 2.1 Ultra High Speed cable to my LG OLED C4 on the latest firmware as well.

I have the same issue: Flashes of hot pink for half a second or so randomly while streaming Netflix/Disney+/Plex

This was never an issue with the Chromecast with Google TV 4K

Hi,

Thanks for responding. I have had the issue of not being able to play Dolby Vision-content from the start. I'm running the latest update available (UTT3.240625.001.K5). I just get a pink screen while the sound is playing fine.

I have switched out all my HDMI-cables for certified HDMI 2.1 cables (one from my Google TV Streamer to my receiver and one from the receiver to my TV). I also powercycled all my devices after switching my HDMI-cables.

Using the same setup with my CCwGTV 4K never caused any of this issues with the same content.

Hope you'll be able to solve this.

Regards.

The problem lies with the GTV Streamer itself. I’ve seen people on other forums have the same issue and explain what’s causing the problem.
It’s got to do with the Dolby Vision profiles and the box isn’t playing them properly, resulting in the pink screen.

I’ve tested the same Dolby Vision content on an old Android TV box I have at home, and it plays fine with no pink screen. And I’ve also tested it on my Sony Android TV, and that plays fine too.
So the box needs an update to fix the issues. But I’ve also noticed a few other bugs with the GTV Streamer when testing it that others here have noticed, it’s micro stuttering during playing some videos which hasn’t happened on my Sony Android TV anytime using the streaming apps on it.
I’ve boxed up the GTV Streamer and it’s getting returned to the store now, and I’ve ordered a different brand Google TV box to see if that’s any better. It should arrive in a week or so and I’ll update here when it arrives to let you know if that has the pink screen Dolby Vision issue and the micro stuttering during some video playback too.

Just an update. I returned the GTV Streamer and bought another Google certified Android TV box (Mecool KM2 Plus Deluxe) and it has none of the issues that the GTV Streamer currently has.

I was getting the pink screen when playing some HDR / Dolby Vision content along with some micro stuttering when playing some videos too on the GTV Streamer, but everything is fine on the new Mecool box.
It looks like Google need to release some fixes to address the current issues.

I can confirm I also see the same behaviour on Google TV Streamer connected to Sony X90L TV. Split second purple glitches during playback on Netflix DV playback. Connecting Fire Cube or Apple TV 4K does not have this behaviour using same hdmi 2.1 cable.

Hey. There is a new firmware UTT3.240625.001.K9. I watched one episode of The Witcher and didn't see any pink artifacts.

It's not new. I have this version since the last update few weeks ago and I still see the problem.

Well I'm replying to his comment that he is using UTT3.240625.001.K5.

Does not fix the pink flash for me.

I played Spellbound (100+ mins) in Netflix, didn't see any pink flash. Also a couple more episodes of The Witcher, also no pink flash. I guess it's fixed for me at least. I don't know what platform your using or maybe different variable is causing it but I'm hoping Google will fix it also. Good luck!

I take it back. Continued watching The Witcher and pink flash appeared again.

I am also experiencing a pink/green flicker every now and then on Netflix and some other apps.

Did not experience this at all with the Google Chromecast with Google TV.

There is something buggy about the Google TV Streamer.

the new firmware does not fixes any of the issues

Still an issue. Happened to us last night. Same symptoms as all the other users. Dolby Vision trying to watch Bad Boys Ride or Die and Deadpool and Wolverine… both on different services both serving Dolby Vision and Atmos. Had better quality and a better time with my GTV dongle. Got the streamer to be STB, more powerful, and more stability. This has been a waste of $200 so far (I bought two for our house).

I’d return them and go for another Google TV box. I had the same issues as you and returned my Google TV Streamer and got a Mecool KM2 Plus Deluxe Google TV box and it’s been working fine since day one. Cost me the same price as the GTV Streamer, it’s a great little box with none of the issues that the GTV Streamer had.

Just came here to give this post more body. I have the same Issue with my LG G3, had it last night with the kingdom of the planet of the apes on disney plus which uses dolby vision. Tried other ports and have the right cable and everything. I’ve read on reddit that you can maby change the color profile on the streamer to maby fix this. I still have to try this but it’s pretty crazy to me that this might be a solution.

It’s definitely a google problem and should be fixed by an update.

Same issue here. Occasional flickers of pink. Any fix?

I have the he same issue, and bought Google's Ultra High Speed HDMI cable. Reboot/Reset doesn't fix this. Should I start a warranty claim? Can Google acknowledge and assure a fix is coming?

You can get a refund if you are still within the return period and then just buy it again if the issue has been fixed if you still want it. This thread is more than 2 months and theres no update from google.

Is there a 1 year warranty on this product.  I just want to return and get something else at this point.   2 months of this happening and an update already applied that did not address the issue.  Can this be returned?

Not sure about that. I purchased mine on Amazon and they only have a 30 day return period. Try reaching to Google Support or the store your purchased it from.

Same pink flash or flicker when streaming content. LG C2. Best HDMI cables on the market. Doesn't matter the HDMI input used or the cable used, from the best I own to the mid tier cables. A bit jarring and sudden but my wife and I constantly call it out to each other when it happens.

Same here. Jellyfin Android TV client on Google TV Streamer plays Dolby Vision file just showing pink screen with sound continuing.

Still no fix... I've just send a feedback via the Google Home app. If more people do this Google might take this issue more seriously. I encourage everyone to do so.

Open Google Home app > tap your profile picture > tap feedback > tap Chromecast with Google TV (there is no Google streamer button yet but I'm confident the same teams get the message)

Same issue.

Streamer > Onkyo TX-N6100 > LG CX

Replaced my CCwGTV 4k with the streamer. Bought the Google Brand HDMI cable too. Connected in the same slot on my Onkyo that my CCwGTV was in. Read a lot on this forum and read it once I started noticing the issue. Tried all the settings and even bypassed the Onkyo and went straight to my LG CX with both the Google Brand cable and a brand new HDMI 2.1b cable. Cannot get rid of the problem.
