Google TV Streamer: Various issues

RossCoulbeck

Hi,

We've had our TV Streamer for a couple of weeks now, and while to start with it was great and a major upgrade from the Android TV built into our Toshiba, it's had more and more issues pop up so I wanted to post them incase anyone can help, and so Google are aware and potential fixes can be worked on. I'm not sure how common some of these are.

Issues:

1. Turning the physical TV itself off and on with the streamer remote is iffy. It turns off fine but turning it on (whether by pressing the on button or any of the other buttons) results in the tv showing a green on light for a few seconds, the turning off again. It will do this 2-6 times before actually turning on.

2. Audio crackles massively on some apps. I've seen there are known audio sync issues, but this is the audio just becoming completely cracked and unlistenable (We haven't noticed sync issues). Only seems to happen on some apps though, such as Disney+. Might be those apps need fixes for Android 14?

3. Some movies from our Google library are purple. The colour palette is all off from some reason and the primary colour becomes purple. I wonder if this is related to the upscaling? Need to check how many movies this happens on.

The only other thing is more of a question. The volume controls don't work when I'm on the PS5, is this because it's a different source? It's slightly annoying to have to use a different remote, but I understand if so.

Thank you in advance with any help you can provide, even if it's just to reassure that these issues are known and being looked into.

Regards

Ross

Hi RossCoulbeck,

Thanks for posting in the Community! Sorry to hear that your experience with the Google TV Streamer hasn’t been the best and you’ve encountered multiple situations with it. No worries, help is here! Please provide me with the following information to get the right troubleshooting:

  1. Have you tried restarting your device?
  2. Do you use an HDMI monitor?
  3. Have you tried using a different HDMI cable?

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Axel.

Hi Axel,

Thanks for replying. Restarting didn't solve the issue but embarrassingly I hadn't thought of swapping the HDMI. I did so temporarily and everything worked fine!

Have a new one on order so will confirm everything is working correctly when that arrives and I have everything set up again.

Regards

Ross

So I bought an entirely new cable, even from a different brand just to be sure, and the problems are still happening with that cable. Is there a specific cable I need to buy? I thought it just needed to be HDMI 2.1.

This is the first one I bought:

And this is the second:

To add a bit more information, I tried it again with the cable that I thought worked and it didn't, so it seems it's an intermittent issue and not cable related. I also changed ports with the same results.

Some films we play directly through Google TV go green and purple, others don't. But playing the green/purple ones through the YouTube app instead and they are fine. Apps like Disney+ end up with crackling audio as I described, but sometimes switching cables around and restarting fixes it temporarily.

Overall I can't find a common denominator and it seems to be random. I'm not sure if the box is faulty or this is just software and app teething issues with a new device and android version.

If it helps our TV is a Toshiba, model number: 55qa5d63db. It has Android TV built into it but we wanted to use the streamer as the built in system is terrible.
