Google TV Streamer has really quiet audio compared to everything else

The new Streamer has much quieter, almost muffled audio compared to everything else I've used (Apple TV, Roku and my built-in apps).

I have it all set to the default values (use audio formats my TV supports), it's connected with an HDMI 2.1 cable and I'm just using my TV's speakers.

I tried the same show - with a 5.1 Dolby track - across different devices and they all sounded rich and full, all except the Google TV Streamer.

Sadly I am close to giving up on this product.

Hi pabulous,

Thank you for posting here in the community. I'm sorry that your Google TV Streamer is having audio quality issues. But no need to worry, help is here.

Before we get started with further troubleshooting, let me ask you some important questions:

  1. What is your setup like?
    • Is the Google TV Streamer connected directly to the TV?
    • Is there a soundbar or AV receiver connected to the TV?
    • Are there other devices connected to soundbar or AV receiver?
    • What kind of cables are you using (ie: eARC or ARC, optical audio cable)?
  2. When does the issue occur? Does it happen after the device has been idle for a period of time?
  3. What app are you using when the issue occurs? Does the issue happen only on this app, or is it happening on other apps as well?
  4. What content were you playing when the issue occurred?
  5. How often does this issue happen? (ie: every time you use the app, once a day, occasionally, etc.)
  6. Is the Google TV Streamer connected through Wi-Fi or Ethernet?
  7. Do you have any other streaming devices (e.g., Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV)? If so, does the same issue happen on those devices?

I understand that you have already followed basic troubleshooting and the issue is still the same.

  1. I understand that you have the correct and compatible HDMI cable.
  2. Reboot the Google TV Streamer: From the Google TV:
    • At the top right of your TV screen > All settings.
    • Select System > Restart
  3. I understand that you have your default settings, but please check if the “Dialogue enhancement” and “Volume leveler” settings are disabled. If it’s enabled, turn it off.
    • At the top right of your TV screen > All settings.
    • Select Display & Sound > Audio options > turn off Dialogue enhancement and Volume leveler.
  4. Reboot the router.

In case it is needed, you can also review this article to know How to factory reset your Chromecast or Google TV Streamer.

Please keep me posted.

Best,

Mario
