Google TV streamer: downloading updates to google play services -> something went wrong

I keep getting a full screen pop-up on my Google TV streamer:

"Downloading updates to google play services" for a split second and then displays "Something went wrong". I have to hit the home button to exit that window. Everything works fine except the pop up every 30-60 minutes.

I tried clearing cache/data and removing update of "Google Play Services". I also tried a full factory reset.

I’m sorry for the inconveniences that you’ve been experiencing with your Google TV Streamer. I can see that a message appears advertising you about an update for Google Play Services; some seconds after that, you get another message that says, “Something went wrong.” This issue is constantly happening even after factory resetting the Google TV streamer. As you have already tried factory resetting the device and the issue persists, you can look for further assistance in the Google Play Community.
