Disconnects when using wired connection

DR12

Hi,
I've recently connected my Chromecast Ultra using the wired connection and have started having problems.
After 1/2 - 1 hour of streaming Disney+ using my phone as control the Chromecast stopped responding and there was no control through Disney+ app or Google Home App. After 5 minutes or trying different things I disconnected the Ethernet cable that was connected to the Chromecast Ultra power adapter. After waiting a while it would start working again. The first time this happened I tried reconnecting the wired connection and it worked for another ~40 minutes.
The next day I tried again and the same sort of thing happened but added some buffering moments before it failed.
It seems to work fine on the 2.4 GHz wireless connection. I'd rather use the wired connection if possible since there are multiple family members using the wireless network.
Today I've tried to set it up again. It seems to be working but it did that yesterday. It appears on the wired network as far as the router is concerned and it seems to respond to pings. I've connected it to the 5 GHz wireless network today to see if that makes a difference.
Is there something special that has to be done to get the wired connection reliable?
I have tried casting YouTube, my phone screen, etc. but the problem has only occurred with Disney+ so far, but Disney+ is the only app that I've tried to watch for more than 10 minutes and the problem seems to occur after longer than that. I don't want to have to watch hours of YouTube to test this out...

Hi Dr12,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand that you are unable to cast Disney plus using a wired connection.

Therefore, i'd like to share a few troubleshooting below:

The 5 GHz connection is better than 2.4 GHz and normally, we recommend 5 GHz for better results.

In the meantime, if you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist you further!

Best regards,

Rusell.

I had tried rebooting, both through home app and by powering off and back on again.

But I've now switched it to the 5 Ghz network and have set up the Chromecast again. It does seem to be working at the moment but I'm not convinced. Why would it make a difference which wifi network it's connected to if it's supposed to be using the wired connection?

When it was going wrong I could still see activity on the hub port LEDs so I don't think it's the cable - and it's still the same cable and is working at the moment. That's probably jinxed it.

Fingers crossed it will keep working.

Hi Dr12,

Thank you for your response. We are sorry that the previous troubleshooting didn't work. We suggest using a different Ethernet cable because there may be some damage to the cable.

Note: If changing the cable still has the same issue, we recommend you contact your ISP for further assistance as it was working wirelessly.

As for the difference between 5GHz and 2.4GHz, 5GHz is faster but has a shorter range while 2.4GHz is slower but has a longer range.

Please let me know if you have more questions.

Best regards,

Rusell.

I don't understand how this can have anytihnto do with the ISP. If you can give me some explanation of what they should look for then maybe I can go to them with something.

Yesterday it dropped out again, basically if came up with a buffering time out message and then I could get any response from it. In amongst various troubleshooting steps I pulled out the Ethernet cable and the Chromecast immediately displayed, via the TV, that it was connecting to the wireless network. It did so and worked for the rest of the film.

Both wireless and wired connections go to the same router and modem, and to the same ISP.

To resolve the issue with casting Disney Plus using a wired connection, try rebooting your Chromecast Ultra, using a different Ethernet cable, or reinstalling Disney Plus. Additionally, RTS TV APK a 5 GHz network offers better performance than 2.4 GHz. Let us know if you need further assistance!
