Google TV streamer global play/pause button

I'm confused as to why there the center button on the google tv streamer button isn't a "play/pause" button... 

On the youtube app, i have to hit the button twice, once to bring up the UI, and a second time to play/pause the video. Not ideal. Considering there are 5 buttons at the top of the remote, it would be cool if they had different functions... but all of them require 2 presses for an action to take place. It's actually a usability nightmare for me. Please, does anyone have a solution for this?
