Google TV streamer, no option to set up 5.1 LPCM ???

hi, i have a question, i have some 5.1 and 7.1 PCM audio files which i using to listen from the TV streamer, this are loseless audio.

where 7.1 are passing to te AVR corectly (Multichannel PCM 7.1)

so all 5.1 files are converted to DolbyDigital+ why ???

my AVR  gives the best sound with loseless audio format, why the streamer is converting loseless 5.1 to an lossy format like DD+ ???

files in 7.1 are working as expected LPCM 7.1 no cvonversion to DD+

but 5.1 are all converted, doesnt matter which setting i chose in the audio setup.

if i chose PCM Stereo then i get PCM but only 2.0 not 5.1

is it possible to add an option "Disable DD+ conversion"???? i will best then my high end  AVR wil handle the audio

"But alls 5.1 files and now insee

DOLBY DIGITAL+ "

Then something is not setup correctly on Kodi because as I already stated, I get PCM 5.1 directly instead of DD+ 5.1 when I use Emby and Jellyfin.

I believe you never said what is the audio format of the files you have, are they .FLAC or .WAV?

What app are you using to play the files?

What is the audio format of the files?

I wonder because in my case I am able to play all my 5.1 and 7.1 FLAC files on all resolutions except the 192Khz ones where no sound is output but that is a problem of the device.

The files play directly as PCM and not as DD+ and it doesn't matter if you use the Auto option or the Dolby Digital Plus option.

The app I use is Emby but it also works with the Jellyfin app.

Did you try the Auto option?, it will play your files directly and it will decode all Dolby codecs to PCM internally too but some people don't like it.

I solved the problem in the following way:
1. I connected the HDMI cable from the receiver (Denon) to the HDMI ARC of the TV (Samsung 4K).
2. The HDMI cable from the Streaming Box THOMSON 240G to HDMI 1 of the TV.
3. I set up the universal remote control of the TV with the PC option and use it to control the Streaming Box THOMSON 240G and the TV. Now when I turn on the TV, both the receiver and the Streaming Box THOMSON 240G are automatically activated and I have 5.1 sound.

Whether using eARC or a direct connection to the receiver, you should be able to get multichannel PCM or LPCM from the Google TV Streamer.

But now you mention a THOMSON 240G box when the title of your post says the Google TV Streamer, can you clarify the confusion?

Im using Kodi to play Music.

In kodi all is setup as it should be.

Streamer connected to AVR, and AVR is connected to TV (why i need use ARC???)

7.1 files working as expected. (On AVR o see "Multichannel PCM 7.1"

But alls 5.1 files and now insee

DOLBY DIGITAL+

Its Crazy.

So installed jellyfin, setup an jelyffin server, and Dolby Digital + on all 5.1 files.

7.1 files Multichannel PCM 7.1

Its Crazy.

How you connected it ?

Have you connect the googleTV streamer to TV and then via eARC to the AVR? If yes so im affeaid then ot streams to the TV DD+ and the TV to the AVR as PCM

Whether using eARC or connected directly to the receiver, I always get multichannel PCM 5.1 and 7.1 on the Google TV Streamer with Emby and Jellyfin apps, you can see it in action on the below video:

Multichannel PCM 5.1 and 7.1 on Emby and Jellyfin

My receiver is Onkyo.

Make sure the Streamer is on the latest firmware update.

My AVR is an Denon.

And my google TV streamer puts only PCM on 7.1

5.1 are always converted to DD+ i don't know wy, not matter what app im using.

My AVR is an older AVR it cannot handle Atmos. But it can handle Multichannel as well, and 7.1 files (i have an 7.1 setup) are working as expected, but 5.1 always as DD+. It's crazy why it is like this in my case.

The Atmos cannot be the reason for simple Multichannel PCM.

And why 7.1 is working as well (maybe the chip in the streamer cannot handle 7.1 sources to encode them to DD+)

I’ve tried connecting it directly to my AV receiver and also through different soundbars like Samsung Q600C / Q700D, TCL Q85H, and Hisense AX5140Q. I tested playback with Vimu, Nova, Kodi, and VLC. No matter what I try, any 5.1 audio format except DTS gets converted to Dolby Digital Plus, DTS is the only format that isn’t converted, and even 2.0 audio ends up as Dolby Digital Plus. From what I’ve seen online, this happens because MS12 is forced to run all the time and always processes the audio, so what’s really needed is a passthrough option in the device audio settings and proper multichannel PCM decoding up to 7.1 instead of being limited to stereo like it is now.

"No matter what I try, any 5.1 audio format except DTS gets converted to Dolby Digital Plus"

the MS12 software stack doesn't convert the audio to DD+, it's just a transport method instead, otherwise I wouldn't be able to play the flac files as I shown in the video.

"so what’s really needed is a passthrough option in the device audio settings"

The box already has a passthrough setting which is one of the "Auto" option that appears in one of the audio settings, what they must do is to add an option to turn off the MS12 software stack so we can have full passthrough as on the CCwGTV.

Please send a request as feedback directly from the device by going to settings -> help and feedback -> send feedback, ask them to add an option to turn off the MS12 software stack.
