New Google TV Steamer does not support Deinterlacing. Due to this, deinterlacing does not work in videos! This is very sad.
I remember this problem was on the first Nvidia Shield 2019 firmware, but that was 5 years ago! Do Google developers really not know such basic things?
If the Google TV Streamer software developers are reading this, please add support for deinterlacing video.

Today the update arrived. Deinterlacing was not added! This is just unbelievable! I'm shocked!
Four months of waiting - all this way for nothing!

It seems that the selected deinterlacing mode is incorrect. The image appears as if it's being filtered using "discard" or "blend" methods rather than "Yadif 2x."

Hey all,
A fix was recently rolled out for the issues affecting some users when viewing interlaced content, however we are aware of the reports from folks still experiencing issues. If you're still having problems while viewing content that's interlaced, we would love additional details.
If you could leave a reply to this comment with the following information, it would be greatly appreciated. And if there are other details you think would be important for the team to know about your usage, feel free to include. Thank you in advance!
Please share as many specific details about the content you're trying to view, including:
- Type of content (specific titles is very helpful)
- What app or channel is the content on?
- What is the country of origin for the content?

My response:
- Type of content (specific titles is very helpful): HDTV DVB-T2 live terrestrial TV
- What app or channel is the content on?: MediaCorp Digital TV (DVB-T2) broadcast received by TVheadend and streamed by Local network over Kodi.
- What is the country of origin for the content?
02-18-2025 05:25 PM
Sorry, to add on the country of origin for the media is Singapore

Are you kidding or what? Every other manufacturer has no problems with deinterlacing and you need us to fix your **Bleep**?

This is exactly how I feel. It's actually embarrassing, this is GOOGLE, a tech giant. How really pathetic.

You were pointed out your mistake after the last update.
I quote:
«It seems that the selected deinterlacing mode is incorrect. The image appears as if it's being filtered using "discard" or "blend" methods rather than "Yadif 2x."»
That is, you need to use "Yadif 2x", To make everything right and smooth.

I want you to implement better frame rate matching for the Google tv streamer.
Today I think it's just Netflix that plays with good frame rate matching on the streamer.
Something for you to look at for the coming updates to this device.
03-15-2025 01:37 PM
Make a topic. This is about deinterlacing
03-15-2025 01:38 PM
Don't make a topic .. this is a community forum , if you want features added, send feedback , as that goes directly to the developers.

I think it is shameful that Google is allowing this to drag on for so long. The recent Community Manager message makes no sense - "A fix was recently rolled out for the issues affecting some users when viewing interlaced content". Why some? Hardware deinterlacing is a bog standard feature for any TV streaming device, there is no subset - the device either implements it or it does not. It has been around and refined on Android TV devices for several years now, and that includes Google devices, specifically Chromecast, the department that I believe the Streamer falls under. So Google has a wealth of experience when it comes to hardware deinterlacing - there are no excuses for not having this fully implemented on the Streamer, now almost 6 months into the product life span, and 4 months since the OP.
To help answer the Community Manager's question - It appears that most of the users here are receiving MPEG-4 1080i25 into HDHomeRun and viewing streams in either the HDHomeRun app, Kodi or TiviMate. I'm guessing that all of these users are from Europe, as MPEG-4 1080i25 is the standard for OTA broadcasts in Europe.

It was all working with the Chromecast. So what could be the issue Google? Just add deinterlacing as it has been working in the Chromecast wtf

Seems like the fix is stalled again.. with no updates from google.. @Ashepherdson @GoogleNestTeam Any updates? The fix for Kodi and DVB-T2 Streams are not yet fixed. kindly let us know the timeline for a proper fix or any settings we can change?
03-03-2025 11:28 AM
Let's wait another 6 months 🤣🥱
03-03-2025 11:39 AM
I consider this a complete disgrace for Google. One of the largest technology corporations in the world, and to fall so low in the eyes of users because of such a small thing is incredible! 👎

Google needs answers to the questions they posted to make these changes, as the fix they implemented didnt work for some of you, at this point only 2 users have posted a response to the mods questions above .. so I will repost them below. They need this so they can recreate the same thing you are all seeing, and implement the proper fix.

Why don't other manufacturers need this? Why did it work on Chromecast? Why should I do Google's Job?

Is it even relevant? In my case, I use an IPTV provider to watch shows, movies, and live TV. It offers content from all over the world, with multiple content providers from various countries providing content to my iptv provider. I use Tivimate, and I'm in Europe, if that helps.

I bought Google Streamer because I thought buying a device manufactured by Google itself will give me the fewest problems. And now see this ridiculous sh** here 😂
03-12-2025 06:29 AM
Hello folks!
Just bought the Google tv streamer and found the picture quality was better on my old TVIP 605 box.
But I wanted this new box to be able to download different apps from Google Appstore.
It's a shame that Google not has come out with an update to solve such an basic task to deinterlace the content you stream.
I want an honest answer from Google dev team. Can you solve this with an update or is it impossible because of the hardware inside the box?
03-12-2025 06:54 AM
And for the Google dev team that was asking for more details I can say I use the Tivimate app, the streamer itself is bought in Sweden this month. I've tested against an older box called TVIP 605 with same cable and same tv channel and the picture is more clear and sharp with that old tv box.
So I really think you have to look this over and find out a solution to make the box deinterlace the content you stream.

Can someone give an update on what's going on please
03-14-2025 04:36 AM
The Google team is still working on this, if I hear more I will post of course, but I know they are busy with the older CC devices right now as well.
03-14-2025 04:37 AM
They are busy with older devices? 😭 This is getting more ridiculous day by day 😂
03-15-2025 03:56 PM
Apparently, a joke - "have to wait another 4 months", it's not a joke at all. There are simply no words except abusive ones. 🤦♂️
03-15-2025 09:31 PM
Maybe we have to wait for Google Streamer 2.
03-27-2025 04:33 PM
Everybody in here gave up?
03-27-2025 05:25 PM
I'll try to get an update from the Googlers
03-31-2025 04:51 AM
Hi, any news from the Googlers?
03-31-2025 04:45 PM
Sadly no .. I'll reach out again and see if I can grab their attention
03-31-2025 05:00 PM
Okay so , same answer as before , they need more information from more users. Please send feedback via the home app with the following
Type of content (specific titles is very helpful)
- What app or channel is the content on?
- What is the country of origin for the content?

Cant be serious 😭
03-27-2025 06:58 PM
I returned my Google tv streamer.
03-27-2025 07:05 PM
Best decision. I hope I would have done the same in the timeframe I was allowed to. But I thought I would just be an update away. Lol
03-28-2025 08:27 AM
I didn't give up. I am still hoping that there is a fix

There is a fix, it's fixable. But Google don't care.
03-28-2025 08:19 AM
I just switched to the Onn 4k pro streamer since the google tv streamer fails to deinterlace my OTA channels through the HD HomeRun.

I've tried to produce the issue on my Streamer to no avail, including some 1080i50 content that seems to be an issue for some. As an example, I tried to get VLC to replicate the behavior. I turned on content matching, and then did:
adb shell am start -n org.videolan.vlc/org.videolan.vlc.gui.video.VideoPlayerActivity -d "https://ia601204.us.archive.org/32/items/TheUltimateTestEnglishHD1080i50/The%20Ultimate%20Test%20-%2..."
Using my TV's HDMI diagnostics, it showed interlaced for a second or so, then went to progressive immediately.

Have you got HdHomeRun? Or Plex with some 1080i files? It's absolutely not fixed.
