I bought the chromecast specifically to control the TV for the kids and setting limits on how and when they can watch. I have now found out that my kids can watch as much youtube on their profile as they like as it does not contribute to the daily screen time limit. If they watch disney or Netflix then the daily limit works fine. I have seen in other posts this occurring for them but these posts are back at the beginning of this year.
Two things I would like to know;
1. Is this a known issue or is it by design?
2.if it is an issue when will it be fixed?
Thanks

Hi Morphflame,
Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. You must be referring to this thread: Daily Limit Not Working on Kids Profile for Chromecast. That thread started early this year, and it was a recognized bug that doesn’t count any apps at all, and that has already been worked on.
Since your situation is limited to the YouTube app, kindly check the following:
You can check out this link: Use parental controls on Google TV to learn more.
Let us know if you still have questions.
Thanks,
Kimy

Thanks for confirming if its a bug, but as this was at the beginning of the year and no updates since on this, can you provide any info on when the big is likely to be fixed?

Hello Morphflame,
Thanks for the reply. Yes, it is a bug, and most of the affected users who reported it finally got it resolved. But your situation is different from this particular bug. That bug doesn’t count any apps (Netflix, Disney+, Spotify, YouTube, etc.) at all, unlike yours, where every app is counted except YouTube. I shared links in my previous reply, which may help in correcting this. Get back to us if you have further concerns.
Sincerely,
Kimy

Slightly confused as you say it is acknowledge as a bug but the people in the thread resolved it without the need of a software update. Also one of the ways they resolved it was taking the chromecast tv back to the shop and getting their money back. So if it is acknowledge as a bug then it must surely be on the road map to get fixed? There is so much room for improvement on the kids profile and parental controls.

Hi there,
I’m sorry for the confusion. Yes, the bug was recognized, and a patch fix was sent in the form of an update. The users got it resolved after they installed the updates. Prior to the recognition of that bug, replacement may have been the resolution. Your case is different, but we would like to take a look into this for you. Please fill out this form with all the needed information and let me know once it's done.
Thanks,
Kimy
