LAN performance issue

Hello all

I own a Google Chromecast with Google TV and I have a strange issue that I can’t resolve.

I use the Ugreen UG-70301 Type-C hub for storage extension and LAN connectivity.
When I perform a speed test (with the Analiti app) I get 300/95 Mbps which is more than enough for my needs.
I get even higher numbers when I’m connected to WiFi but I chose to stay with LAN as it’s a more reliable connection. All works perfectly without any problem except one.
I use a certain streaming service, its' server is located in the Netherlands and when I’m connected to LAN and I perform a speed test (Within the streaming service’s app), I get around 20 Mbps which is not enough for smooth 1080p streaming and I’m switched automatically to 720p.
When I disconnect from the LAN and switch to WiFi, I get 60-70 Mbps to their server and can watch 1080p content without any problem.
Basically, I can use WiFi for streaming but I wonder why I get slower performance to their server when connected to LAN although the Analiti app shows more or less the same result with LAN and WiFi?
It’s a shame to have a wired, stable, and reliable connection and not use it 🙂

Maybe you’ll be able to solve this mystery.

I really appreciate any help you can provide.

Michael.

Hi MichaelMi84,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. This is one bizarre situation. And since you mention that the Chromecast device works well when using WiFi, it is safe to say that the Chromecast device is working as intended. After all, this is more about the difference between the types of connectivity being used. The Chromecast device doesn’t need a huge amount of bandwidth for it to do its work, which is why you won’t see it showing such speed test results. Network-related issues are the factors that I see here. It could be the LAN cable or port, it could be the host server, or it could be DNS. Try to work on those and let us know how it goes. We look forward to your response.

Thanks,

Kimy
