Latest CCwGTV Update is a POS

GrumpyChook

Well the latest update published by google has yet again been a complete POS

I now have two devices that may as well be paper weights as neither now recognise the tvs they are plugged into. I have tried a complete factory reset on one device and now when I try to pair the remote it no longer recognises the tv so I cannot control the power or volume. And before you ask no I don’t have the original remote which is one of the reasons I originally purchased these devices.

one tv is a viewsonic and the other is a samsung

looking at other posts there appears to be a ton of issues with this latest update.

Well done google,

No I won’t be purchasing the latest device

I Haven the same problem. Is there a new update coming soon to fix IT?

I wouldn't beat on it..

Google "Support" is nothing short of a complete joke.

All they do is tell you to do a factory reset and if that doesn't work go back to them, at which point you get a different muppet who just tells you to do the same thing.

These were the last two Google products I had. They will now be going the same place as my Nest Wifi, Nest Cameras, Nest Speakers etc.

STRAIGHT IN THE BIN!!!!!!!

Hi all,

Thanks for reaching out to the community page. I'm sorry to hear that your Chromecast with Google TV isn't recognizing the TV it's plugged into after the recent update, and that the remote can't control the power or volume. I understand your concern, especially since you've already tried a factory reset and tested it with a different TV without success. I appreciate the detailed information you've shared, your troubleshooting efforts, and the time you've taken to contact our live support. Don't worry, I'd be more than glad to assist you.

Let's try the following steps:

  • Unplug and Replug HDMI-CEC: Disconnect the Chromecast from the TV and the power source for 1-2 minutes. Reconnect it and ensure HDMI-CEC is enabled on the TV.

  • Check Remote Settings: Go to Settings > Remotes & Accessories > Set up remote buttons and manually reconfigure the power and volume controls for your TV brand.
  • Try a Different HDMI Port: Plug the Chromecast into another HDMI port on the TV to re-establish the connection.
  • Test with a Different TV: Temporarily test the Chromecast with another TV (other than Viewsonic or Samsung) to isolate whether it's a compatibility or update issue.

Please let me know how it goes after trying these steps.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Ok, So it looks like yet another update has been released

This seems to have fix this issue on one TV I'm yet to try the other.

The waiting game will now be what else has been broken as unfortunately recent history from Google is with their updates is Fix 1 issue, create 2 more.

The fact that this has been fixed has not changed my mind in anyway.

These devices have become incredibly unstable.

There is no way to prevent them from being updated

Support is terrible

I will be removing them and all other google products from my home.

Google just isn't worth the pain.
