There is a well documented defect/bug on the Google TV streaming platform that dates back to an update that occurred in late 2023 that essentially introduced massive stuttering and playback issues in 24fps content on devices. The only known workaround/fix was to enable Developer Options and to find the 'Disable HW Overlay' setting and set that to enabled. This somehow temporarily resolves the stuttering issues and smoothes out the playback of this lower fps content but the problem is that this is only a temporary fix and this setting gets reset every time you perform a restart of the Google TV OS.
Supposedly this was being reviewed by the Google TV software team but I can confirm that this issue is NOT FIXED as of today since I purchased the new Google TV Streamer 4k device and the same stuttering issue is happening still. Can someone from the development team please comment on this issue and provide a timeline when this will be fixed fully? This is absolutely insane that a massive stuttering playback issue has been impacting this device for nearly a year with no fix or acknowledgment of a resolution on the horizon. It completely nullifies the entire purpose of the device if you cannot playback streaming content smoothly
I am running the Google TV OS version: UTT3.240625.001.K5
Can someone from the development team PLEASE comment on this issue and/or create a defect to track this and get it fully resolved so that we don't have to rely on this 'Disable HW Overlay' temporary fix any longer?
