No apps or updates can be installed, new chromecast tv 4k

Hi

My new chromecast TV 4k simply won't install any updates or apps. Every single time it stops at "pending download". Not even the stock apps like YouTube are installed. I have tried 3 factory resets and 3 different Google accounts, but same story every time the first configuration is completed. I have tried to follow the various workarounds presented here on the forum with clearing data for Google play services etc without any success. Simply no updates or apps can be installed... Casting from other devices works fine and no network issues. TV is an 4 year old Philips if that matters.

Out of options at this stage and after half a day of Troubleshooting fairly frustrated 😀...

Hi BödaBoy,

Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us. Since you’ve tried a factory reset multiple times, chances are it may not be on the device. Let’s isolate the possibility of network issues (IP address conflict, server rejection, DNS issues, etc.) by connecting your Chromecast with Google TV to a different network. If you can, try to do a factory reset so you can set it up from scratch, but ensure that you connect it to your mobile hotspot (if there’s no other WiFi network available). Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Kimy

I did a factory reset and installed the Google tv chromecast using a mobile hotspot as suggested and it worked! Thanks a lot for that! Now switched it back to the correct wifi to stream. However switching over to mobile hotspot every time you want to download new apps or updates doesn't feel like a longterm solution. All other devices including a gen 3 chromecast works fine on my tp link mesh network. Any advice on how solve this longterm?

Hi there,

Thanks for keeping us in the loop, @BödaBoy. That workaround is to get the update. Since it’s already been updated, it should be working from here on. If the issue persists despite it being fully up-to-date, then something is up with the network.

Since this has been sorted out, I’ll keep this thread open for one more day. Feel free to create a new one if you have questions in the future.

Thanks,

Kimy

Hi Kimy. Unfortunately my worries were confirmed. Once the Google tv chromecast is connected to the tp link mesh wifi network again it is no longer possible to download apps or updates... It is not even starting downloads but stops at "waiting ".

Hi BödaBoy,

Thanks for the reply. This has something to do with your network. Your Chromecast device is working as intended, and we proved it after switching to a different network (your mobile hotspot). Some users usually fix this by doing a factory reset on their router, but I strongly suggest that you contact your ISP (if your router came from them) or your router’s manufacturer for proper guidance. The last thing we want is to complicate things with your network. Let us know how it goes.

Cheers,

Kimy

I contacted the ISP and asked for a new IP address and that finally solved the problem. Apparently Google play didn't work on any of our android devices but we hadn't noticed it.
