Game mode (AKA ALLM) stops working on the Google TV Streamer

The Google TV Streamer supports the ALLM function (Auto Low Latency Mode) which is a video mode suitable for playing games.

On the device, we only have to turn ON the "Game mode" option in settings in order to use the feature, provided that the TV where the device is connected also supports the same feature.

The problem lies that the game mode stops working when the Quick Media Switching function is activated on the TV and the only workaround is to turn it off for the game mode to work.

This is happening on an LG QNED TV, however, I also have the Xiaomi TV Box S 3rd Generation that also supports both features, and the game mode works correctly when the TV has the Quick Media Switching option activated.

Apps with ALLM support are the Bombsquad game, The Steam Link app, The Moonlight app and the GeForce NOW Cloud Gaming app, I imagine there must be other apps with support as well.

Please escalate this situation to the engineers so they can take a look at the situation.

Thank you.

Note: This is a copy of a similar post made by made but it's locked and I couldn't add a message clarifying that the issue lies on the device and not on the TV as I stated in that post:

As anyone may already know, the Google TV Streamer supports Quick Media Switching since it's an HDMI 2.1b compliant device, however, it seems the implementation is not working correctly, at least on my TV.

I have an Hisense TV with Quick Media Switching support, where I notice some judder while videos play, it happens with all apps I've tested and it affects the 23.976 Hz, 24 Hz, 25 Hz, 29.97 Hz, 30 Hz and 50 Hz (59,94 Hz and 60 Hz are not affected). I also have an LG TV with Quick Media Switching support where I notice similar issues.

It's important to clarify that motion interpolation is turned off in order to observe the issue.

I hope that this is escalated to the appropriate team for visibility, the idea is to improve this feature, since on other devices I tested (such as the Xiaomi TV Box S 3rd generation) I don't see the same issues.

Thanks!.

Hi @branches78,

Thanks for reaching out to the community. I appreciate the detailed information you provided, I understand that the "Game mode" option settings are not working as expected, and you've confirmed this behavior across multiple TVs. I'm glad to share more details with you.

To assist with troubleshooting, could you please provide the following information?

  • When did you first notice this issue?
  • Were there any changes to your TV settings before this started happening?
  • Are both your Google Home app and your streaming apps updated to their latest versions?
  • Is your Chromecast device plugged directly into your modem or connected via WiFi?
  • Have you tried rebooting your TV and Chromecast device?
  • Have you attempted a factory data reset on your Chromecast?
  • Have you tried plugging the streaming device into other HDMI ports on the same TV?

Additionally, please Submit feedback about your Chromecast, Chromecast with Google TV or Google TV Streamer device using the keyword: Google TV Streamer + Quick Media Switching not working on (Brand of the TV)"

I look forward to your response so we can find a solution for you soon.

Regards,

Gabriela
