Update 3/17/25:

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Im in Sweden as well

I think they know that by now. To me it seems as if a certificate has run out. The question is whether they feel like renewing it for our ancient devices.

That would be not cool. If they did that

I could not cast at all... In home my Chromecast was offline but it was not! Tried to restart but still did not work... So I reset it and tries to set it up again, now I can not set it up! Either Google Home says it can not connect to it.. or that it fails authentication.... What is going on? This has never happened before...is my Chromecast bricked for some reason?

I am having the same problem, never happened before.... No streaming platform was able to send and after factory reset it can't be set up

Same issue here.

Everything was ok till yesterday.

I have the same problem 😞 In the morning was working perfectly

Exact same problem here!

Jeg har samme problem Håber der er nogen der ved hvad der sker

Same right now both me and neighbor

I'm having the exact same issue! I done a factory reset to try set it up again, but everytime it says it cannot communicate with the chromecast! I'm so frustrated

Same issue right now........

Same issue. I have 2, both stopped working

Por aquí lo mismo!

Same problem here

Stesso problema dallitalia

Same here. Not sure why Google can't be bothered to put a message up when you use their search engine - looks like nobody's Chromecast is working, anywhere in the world. I've wasted at least an hour doing factory resets, uninstalling and reinstalling Home, trying different devices, turning the WiFi router off, only to find that it's not just me.

Till yesterday it was working fine. Today morning it worked fine and suddenly it’s not working. Don’t know why. Horrible. Not able to reach out to customer care. It’s getting disconnected

What the f*:k

Same issue here in UK

Apparently this affects Chromecast audio and Generation 2 devices. Worked this morning then stropped.

I am having the same problem! I had no problems earlier today.
