Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

Hey everyone, thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this issue. Here’s the latest:

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

Nossa eu do Brasil e o meu tbm parou de funcionar e fica dando erro triste pois não consigo assistir mais nada e sem aviso já restaurei fiz tudo que podia toma que o Google resolva já que eles decidiram para de meche com o Chromecast para vende o outro dispositivo deles mais caro

Stavo cercando di collegare il dispositivo chromecast al telefono ma mi dava errore,così ho provato a ricollegare il tutto ma adesso mi da che il mio dispositivo non si riesce ad autenticare.

Ho notato che in molti hanno appena scritto di questo problema, come si può risolvere?

O Chromecast não quer mais finalizar a configuração e acessar a rede de internet para eu transmitir e poder assistir. Aparece a seguinte mensagem: “O dispositivo Luiza pode estar configurado, mas não foi possível estabelecer a comunicação entre ele e o iPhone. Verifique se você ativou o acesso à rede local nas configurações de privacidade do iPhone. Em seguida, tente novamente.” Não sei o que fazer pois já restaurei o aparelho ao padrão de fabrica, reiniciei minha rede de internet, apaguei o aplicativo e instalei novamente, entre muitas coisas que já fiz! Preciso de suporte.

Hi Same issue for me in UK. I have a old version gen 2  Chromecast I think  (grey without remote), it was working fine till yesterday. Today, I was getting Chromecast photos wallpaper screen on my TV but was not able to connect from my phone/tablet. Tried factory resetting the Chromecast, Now when I try to setup the Chromecast with Home app, I'm getting a we couldn't authenticate your chrome cast error message. Please rollout a fix for this issue.

Me too. Gemini said to do a factory reset and the Chromecast would install updates. This didn't happen...

Tengo el mismo problema. De Argentina. Lo usé normalmente, sin embargo, actualmente me daba error. Lo re establecí de fabrica, y no me deja por "autenticación". Vamos Google, den respuesta.

It's been 6 hours and I've got the exact same issue! Really frustrating... any idea how we can fix this?

Same error. Was working OK this morning. In the final step, it’s conected to WiFi and immediately after, it says there’s been a problem, to try again. I have tried everything they asked to try with no results.

I have the same problem in Bucharest, Romania, 2nd generation I think. I have tried everythind, restart, reboot, factory settings, nothings works.I can’t connect/cast from my iPad, It seems it isn’t set up. on my IPad/Hmoe app I have the message”Family room tv may be set up, We could not communicate with it from your iPad”. Does anyone work to solve these issues? Why don’t we have e message/solution already? It’s been hours since it crashed 

Same problem, Chromecast second gen. Worked yesterday. This afternoon failed to try casting so I performed a factory reset (for the first time since installed) and now unable to set it up because of 'couldn't authenticate your Chromecast..." 

Mine is a NC2-6A5. My other chromecast still works. I think it is a bit newer. But the newer one has always been laggy (dropping frames) when plugged into anything higher res than a 720p TV. So I kind of stuck with this older version that could provide smooth video on FullHD. But of course Google has now broke it 😞

Meu Chromecast 2 (ou 3, nao sei bem) resolveu nao linkar mais o app streaming da Amazon. Diz que ambos dispisitivos devem estar na mesma conta. Isso nunca foi exigido e nao hà como ligar em contas dentro do Chromecast. Nao tive sucesso tentando resolver.

Decidi reinstalar o aparelho dai encontra pelo bluetooth, começa a parece, exige o codigo de 4 digitos na tela da TV, mas por fim diz qye não pode autenticar: nem chego a colocar o código no app Home.

Alguém me ajude!

So UK, Romania, Argentina, Germany, etc all having the same problems… guess it’s not us then, must be a google problem 

I have 2 good old Chromecast 2, both worked fine until today when both gone missing from the network & i cant connect anything to them, google home app says they're not connected. I try everything o one of then i restore factory settings & when i tried to install it the app says it couldn't authenticate the device... pls need help, in can't afford a new one & my autistic child is in crisis because she can't see her cartoons.

Just looked national newspaper is reporting a global chromecast outage problem 

My Chromecast Audio stopped working this afternoon as well, I am in the UK. I tried a few power cycles, different PSU then a reset. I also get the "we couldn't authenticate" or "unable to communicate" error when trying to set up.

Fuk a Google! Same thing down in Argentina, none of my Chromecast work.

Unable to even set up Google Chrome cast.error message just keeps playing 'We could not authenticate your Chromecast'. 

We have been using this and the problem started today and plenty of users reported in UK a similar problem.

Looking on twitter, everyone is experiencing it, looks like google shut them down, no explanation or messages, we are very sorry, seems like they just shut them all off
