If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.
Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.
If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.
We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:
Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165
Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166
Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

Hola, hoy llegué por la tarde a mi casa y encendí el televisor y vi que no podía conectarme. Ni con HBO ni con Netflix ni con nada. Procedí a hacer mil cosas y reinicie de fábrica el Chromecast. Ahora me dice que no se puede auténticar. Probé míl cosas. Pero nada funciona. Leí que es un problema global. Alguien me puede ayudar? Gracias

I am aware no one will read this - people are in write only mode - but according to reddit threads it's a global issue, they know about it, and working on it. Check in a day or two to see if there's a solution posted anywhere.

Same issue in Romania- 2 Chromecast devices- 2nd gen- both stopped working today. Nothing worked- went through all steps; I get the same "could not connect to your chromecast device" message in the Home App.

Same error.
Worked fine yesterday 03/08/2025/ I have 3 devices GA00439-US. If I try to stream YouTube I see the same untrusted message.
I did reboot, restarted my phone, unplugged the Chromecast from TV - nothing. So I did the factory reset.
Started the setup. My phone sees the Chromecast - the same Device name as in the bottom right corner of the TV. Clicked Next - 4 characters code show up on TV like A1V2 and then I see the message that the device cannot be authenticated.,

You're lucky, mine won't even get to the 4 letter code stage! It finds the CC, then thinks and thinks and says it can't communicate with my CC.

Hola tenia problemas de transmisión a mi chromecast y lo reinicie de fabrica, también la aplicación Home y ahora no me permite terminar la configuración, cuando agrego el dispositivo me ahora un mensaje de error de autenticacion?
Pero reiniciando el aparato, la aplicación la red y no me permite vincular ?

I'm in Silicon Valley, getting the same issue. OG Chromecast could not authenticate. I Factory reset as directed, so firmware version is whatever originally came on this.
Error from Google home when trying to set up again:
We couldn't authenticate your Chromecast. Please visit
support.google.com/chromecast for help troubleshooting this issue.

Desde hace unas hs no puedo transmitir contenido de mi celular a mi dispositivo chromecast de 2da gen.
Primero error de firmware, que reinicie el dispositivo para actualizarse, al hacerlo ahora tengo error de autenticación para emparejarlo con mi celular, por lo que ahora tengo un Chromecast obsoleto ya que solo se puede configurar conectado al celular... Pero que al no poder autenticarlo para que empareje con mi celular no puedo configurarlo......
Me parece una práctica de mal gusto..

O meu Chromecast parou de funcionar, já tentei todos os tipos de configurações mesmo assim não funciona. Parece que não é um caso isolado. O que aconteceu?

Simplesmente por puro descaso ao seu consumidor o Google cancelou todos os Chromecasts 2. Falta de respeito com seus usuarios, falha de firmware o escambau. Negócio é procurar os JEC (Juizados especial civel) e Procon, afinal pagamos pelo equipamento!!!

I tried to cast a youtube video and it saod bad firmware so wouldnt connect. I went to google home and hit reboot on the connected devide nothing. So i did a hard reset. Now when google home finds the chromcast and i try to connect says authentication error. Ive tried to reset rouder unplug it nothing works
