POSSIBLE TEMPORARY FIX:
It appears that someone at Google overlooked updating the essential certificate files for the Chromecast (2nd Gen) and Chromecast Audio, which is possibly causing the problem. One Redditor claims that the intermediate certificate authority for the Chromecasts (2nd gen) expired on March 9, 2025. Due to this, Google's servers are not validating these devices.

I changed the date on my phone as was able to get it to work!!
03-10-2025 09:04 PM
the same issue, I reboot the chromecast, but couldn't authenticate it about on March 8,2025
03-10-2025 09:13 PM
Try changing the date on your phone to before March 8th and it should let you do it!
03-10-2025 09:29 PM
Maybe on March9,. When I manually set my phone’s date before March 9, 2025, I can use the Google Home app to set up Chromecast, but still can not cast anything.
03-10-2025 09:06 PM
Just here to say I'm also experiencing this. I was going to reset it until seeing others had tried that, already. This coincided with me linking to Nest and I thought that was the issue but it seems to be a coincidence.
03-10-2025 09:16 PM
Last night our chromecast wouldn't connect. Tried again tonight and still having the issue. Decided to reset it and add the device again. Getting the "can't authenticate" messenge.. looks like we aren't the only ones!
03-10-2025 09:20 PM
03-10-2025 09:29 PM
Same, issue, couldn't authenticate your device message, or untrusted device, mine is old. Any clew to fix it please.

Acesse o suporte...

03-10-2025 06:31 PM
O meu também parou dia 09/03/25
03-10-2025 06:30 PM
Está todo mundo na mesma situação. E o google nada de resolver.
03-10-2025 06:56 PM
E acredito que tiraram as atualizações do chromecast 2
03-10-2025 06:53 PM
E o suporte não resolve o problema
03-09-2025 07:10 PM
03-09-2025 07:14 PM
Aqui a mesma coisa. Já resetei 3x. O Google home não reconhece o cast
03-10-2025 08:26 AM
Complicado.

Hehe... personally I never liked Apple... the programmed obsolescence is wilder than Google's.
